The farm manager position at Food to Power could be a really strategic position for local food system organizing.

DECENTRALIZE YOURSELF.
(Just not in the way Fediverse federation advocates are suggesting.)
Over all of the ecosystem promising an open social web, with decentralization and federation designed to protect user control, falls the shadow of reality.

The most evil company in show business -- Warner Bros. Discovery -- is threatening to take over Paramount. Should be an antitrust no-brainer:
Block it.

This is very cool and thought provoking.

Evening thought: the amount of funding Mastodon got this year is probably less than the salary for one of the top engineers working on Threads.
Not sure what to make of it, but maybe it helps understand why things take time to be implemented.
Also a reason why we want to focus on getting more money in 2024 so we can hire more people and iterate more quickly on Mastodon ✊
Somehow I’ve never heard of Penpot before, a free and open-source alternative to Figma/Sketch. It’s been around for years (!), looks to have a lot of feature parity, and you can even self-host. The internet is just so vast: https://penpot.app/

So f'ing tiresome.
Pumping & digging millions of years of carbon sequestration out of the ground every year cannot be balanced by growing an entire planet's worth of plants to suck in the carbon emitted. But he never said that. He said reforesting (not plantation planting) would be valuable to reduce what's been or continues to be done. Using it to excuse accelerating the digging & pumping is a cynical perversion of the message.Rather than explain that the headline mocks him.
Every now and then people wonder how to replace #phosh's on screen keyboard and what interfaces are needed. Here's some notes on that: https://phosh.mobi/posts/phosh-osk-interface/

50 years ago this month, the first strike in space happened.
"In December 1973, the workers on the Skylab 4 space station had been set a punishing schedule, and mission commander Jerry Carr had argued that “We would never work 16 hours a day for 84 straight days on the ground, and we should not be expected to do it here in space.”..."
Facebook is being overrun with stolen, AI-generated images that people think are real. Engagement bait pages use a "seed" image, clone it, then post it dozens of times across pages. People on FB think it's real.
Meanwhile Brazil’s Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) is working on auctioning off new blocks for oil exploration, including some in the Amazon Basin:

Not all of the news is good.
Still, the rapid progress is impressive.
Lula's electoral victory was terrifyingly narrow, and this month Brazil's Congress passed legislation undermining Lula's progress toward re-empowering indigenous land-defenders: https://news.mongabay.com/2023/12/outcry-as-brazil-congress-overrides-president-to-revive-anti-indigenous-law/
As expected:

"Finer credited Lula's stronger enforcement of environmental laws for the decline."
I have always liked the salary scheme John Brunner devised toward the end of “The Shockwave Rider,” with jobs being compensated in direct proportion to their social utility, energy requirements and degree of difficulty, danger or unpleasantness. A world where middle-school teachers and care nurses were paid a hundred times what baseball players or newsreaders were would be a good world.
The Balaji Fund, backed by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and other wealthy tech players, aims to fund “Network States” free of ‘overbearing’ regulations.

REMINDER FOR
LAID-OFF & UNEMPLOYED
AMERICANS
there is no shame to use all the social services you have paid with your taxes, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A WHITE, MID/HIGH INCOME EARNER.
welfare is racialized in this country to deprive all Americans of the social services WE PAY for.
it’s imperative y’all flood social services offices because if you don't, that's why the griftocracy keeps cutting local, state & federal budgets.
so here’s what you can do after losing your job:

Btw the Netherlands recorded the highest number of viral covid particles in sewershed ever this week and things aren't going much better in the US, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Denmark. And that's just the ones I personally know of. And we haven't even hit Christmas and NYE yet
So this winter may just become the literal worst one on record for covid since the pandemic began, just in case you still think covid is over, or even just believe the covid situation is overall improving
