Sometimes it takes going through a natural disaster to open your eyes to the sad truth of things. Hopefully it doesn't take that for all of us.

The System Isn’t Designed to Help You

Veblen writing about the invasion of business methods into the education system in 1915 (from The Theory of Business Enterprise)

I’m not a scholar, but I have spent a fair amount of time with history:

The moment either America or any European country denounces this settler-colonial apartheid military regime, the jig is up. They can’t rein in a hyper-aggressive, genocidal project they forged in their own image. Instead they have to prop up the imperialist lies and violence until the end of time, or else risk the collapse of their own hegemonic states.

With God as my witness, Free Gaza, Free the West Bank, Free Palestine.

There's a design proposal out for supporting "operator sync" in #Abra.

We're aiming to better support collective sync of important metadata, e.g. the app version that was just deployed.

This will be an important change which helps keep deployments stable while working together within a tech collective.

Feedback is very welcome: git.coopcloud.tech/coop-cloud/ 🤓

I also want to encourage anyone who’s a content creator for YouTube to also put their content on a PeerTube instance.

And yes, there’s no ad revenue on PeerTube. That’s a good thing though. No ads means people see your video right away. No pesky ads interrupting your videos flow. You’d have to rely on donations. Which most YouTubers already do anyway.

Help the Fediverse grow. Add your content to PeerTube.

Tesla whistleblowers filed a complaint to the SEC in 2021, but the agency never interviewed them. Here’s what the complaint said. Excellent reporting by @lorakolodny cnbc.com/2023/10/12/tesla-whis

It's no surprise anymore that Republicans want to censor everything but right-wing propaganda.

It's vile that so many Democrats are -- in their too-typical clueless way when it comes to online freedom of expression -- are supporting legislation that could slam the door on all kinds of free speech.

We need smarter, or at least less lazy, lawmakers.

A fed court may have just doubled down on a blatantly unconstitutional gag order against the press it briefly entered in Feb. But the language is so unclear that no one is quite sure who is silenced. Unfortunately, journalists may self-censor out of caution. freedom.press/news/ambiguous-g

Chris Luxon’s threat to restart oil exploration is a shocker.

New oil and gas exploration would be a DISASTER for the climate and the ocean.

That ban was long-fought for and hard-won.

New oil exploration won't start in Aotearoa without a fight.

Mobian started as a hobby project, triggered by the excitement of finally being able to hack one’s mobile phone at will. It is fair to say that the device that made it possible back then was the original PinePhone. However, after running once again into the same difficulties we experienced over and over, we’re wondering whether maintaining support for this device is still worth the effort…

@gecko @tootbrute @KinmenRisingProject The real difference there comes from @purism having kernel devs on their payroll: in terms of hardware parts, IMHO they didn't make obviously better choices when looking only at the "software support" aspect (heck, even they ended up with a downstream driver for the wifi cards they initially shipped)
