There's a design proposal out for supporting "operator sync" in #Abra.
We're aiming to better support collective sync of important metadata, e.g. the app version that was just deployed.
This will be an important change which helps keep deployments stable while working together within a tech collective.

I also want to encourage anyone who’s a content creator for YouTube to also put their content on a PeerTube instance.
And yes, there’s no ad revenue on PeerTube. That’s a good thing though. No ads means people see your video right away. No pesky ads interrupting your videos flow. You’d have to rely on donations. Which most YouTubers already do anyway.
Help the Fediverse grow. Add your content to PeerTube.
Tesla whistleblowers filed a complaint to the SEC in 2021, but the agency never interviewed them. Here’s what the complaint said. Excellent reporting by @lorakolodny https://www.cnbc.com/2023/10/12/tesla-whistleblowers-filed-complaint-to-sec-in-2021-what-it-said.html
It's no surprise anymore that Republicans want to censor everything but right-wing propaganda.
It's vile that so many Democrats are -- in their too-typical clueless way when it comes to online freedom of expression -- are supporting legislation that could slam the door on all kinds of free speech.
We need smarter, or at least less lazy, lawmakers.

A fed court may have just doubled down on a blatantly unconstitutional gag order against the press it briefly entered in Feb. But the language is so unclear that no one is quite sure who is silenced. Unfortunately, journalists may self-censor out of caution. https://freedom.press/news/ambiguous-gag-order-could-silence-the-press-in-north-carolina/

Chris Luxon’s threat to restart oil exploration is a shocker.
New oil and gas exploration would be a DISASTER for the climate and the ocean.
That ban was long-fought for and hard-won.
New oil exploration won't start in Aotearoa without a fight.

Australians look set to vote against Indigenous voice in parliament - https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/oct/12/australians-look-set-to-vote-against-indigenous-voice-in-parliament pretty staggering affirmation of racism...you OK with that, #Australia...?
Mobian started as a hobby project, triggered by the excitement of finally being able to hack one’s mobile phone at will. It is fair to say that the device that made it possible back then was the original PinePhone. However, after running once again into the same difficulties we experienced over and over, we’re wondering whether maintaining support for this device is still worth the effort…

@gecko @tootbrute @KinmenRisingProject The real difference there comes from @purism having kernel devs on their payroll: in terms of hardware parts, IMHO they didn't make obviously better choices when looking only at the "software support" aspect (heck, even they ended up with a downstream driver for the wifi cards they initially shipped)
Many people in the Codeberg community think that it is very important to read @drewdevault's blog post about the forbidden topics: https://drewdevault.com/2023/09/29/The-forbidden-topics.html
The responses to such posts even in our online spaces show that people disagree without even trying to understand it.
We kindly ask you: Read the post, think about it, and try to reflect your own actions accordingly.
ON October 12 there is NOTHING TO CELEBRATE.
TODAY is another COUNTER CLOUD ACTION DAY!
Why is October 12 another Counter Cloud Action day?
The 12th October marks the trans-oceanic invasion of Abya Yala (aka the Americas) and is nowadays actively celebrated by many as "Columbus Day" or "day of Hispanity" (sic). Activists have reclaimed the day to remember the atrocities of colonialism and to celebrate Indigenous and anti-colonial resistance instead: "nada que celebrar" (nothing to celebrate)!
In case you were wondering, why yes, the world is still the warmest of record for this time of year, which has been the case almost every single day since early June. Graphic from U. Maine Climate Reanalyzer. #ClimateCrisis #ClimateChange #ClimateDiary #Climate
I've just written this: https://tech.oeru.org/foss-libresoftware-its-about-clarity-and-values to explain why I've adopted the term #LibreSoftware over #FOSS or #OpenSource to talk about the *non-proprietary* software about which I'm passionate.

According to HackerNoon, they consider #ActivityPub as the "future of social networks". In addition, they have crafted an outstanding explanation of its functionalities and capabilities, accompanied by remarkable code-based illustrations.
It is highly recommended reading material for developers interested in constructing a Fediverse app.

How about it Aotearoa!!
Let’s start with a ban on the big ones very soon — they’re polluting the air, driving climate change and endangering the lives of pedestrians and cyclists.
