Subsidies aside, I wonder if anyone has tried to analyze how much gasoline would cost if the U.S. and others were not willing to take human lives in order to keep the price of oil down.

A big part of the reason that embodied energy is less important for major appliances than for electronics is that their useful life is much longer. The 2012 paper that I link to upthread assumes 14 years of useful life for appliances, compared with 1-5 years of usesful life for electronics.

Hey anyone who uses #etsy, they are changing their terms and conditions so you cannot participate in class action lawsuits against them. You can opt out using these steps, but you have to do it before 23rd August 2023.

It applies if you have a profile there, whether you sell or not!

Hey, Mastodon people with WordPress experience... I'm trying to fix a thing and would like some advice. Over at my site (eviscerati.org) I have multiple RSS feeds. I use a plugin that allows me to create a feed for each category on my site, so readers can subscribe to the specific content they're interested in and ditch the rest:

Thanks to an amazing follower we might have debunked the UN report from India. This is just one of many stories about false reporting.

"India falsely claims forestry progress in ‘skewed’ report, experts warn.

By counting plantations and urban parks as forests, the Indian government hides deforestation caused by industrial projects."

India slashes emissions rate by one-third in 14 years, putting it on track to reach UN goal.

This drop is faster than expected and is down to a rise in renewable energy generation and forest cover, according to two officials who have seen the latest assessment made for submission to the United Nations.

The report's findings showed India well on the way to meeting a commitment to the United Nations.

Look, Clarence Thomas is a thoroughly corrupt person. There is not a shred of doubt anymore.

But just in case you were still uncertain, @ProPublica has gone deep and wide on "his penchant for taking expensive favors from his uber-wealthy and connected patrons that is far more extensive than previously understood.”

This is quite an interesting trend line in India. Windows collapse is almost opposite mirrored by Linux gain.

Thoughts on Int'l Leadership

"it's impossible to overstate the degree to which many big tech CEOs and venture capitalists are being radicalized by living within their own cultural and social bubble."
