Hey #AskFedi,
Is *anyone* out there using FOSS for accounting?
I'm struggling with Quickbooks desktop (which you can only get as a subscription now, unless you pay four figures for an enterprise license).
#Xero comes highly recommended to me, but I'm loathe to go "#cloud" for accounting. Very loathe indeed.
But while I want to try FOSS for my personal accounting, I just can't make the leap for business yet. I wish I could. But I was wondering if anyone out there already has.
Time for an #introduction
Magpie Market is a federated platform aiming to be an alternative to #etsy; leveraging the Fediverse to help #artists, craftspeople, and others promote and sell their goods and services. We believe the #fediverse deserves a marketplace built with federation in mind.
Half of all plastics *ever* manufactured have been made in the last 15 years.
Production increased exponentially, from 2 million tons of plastics in 1950 to 448 million tons by 2015.
Production is expected to *double* by 2050.
Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic waste escapes into the oceans from coastal nations.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT. Disney scanned every background actor in WandaVision without giving them any explanation of how it may be used, asking them to make various facial expressions like “surprised” and “scared”.
"First, the Big 5 do not SELL ebooks to libraries. Not one.
Libraries do not own title one from the Big 5. We license them. And that makes all the difference in the world for cost, depth and breadth of collection, and preservation. Nobody should ever use the word 'sell' in a sentence combining 'Big 5' and 'library ebooks.' This is not nit-picking. It is the essence of the problem."
And they are suing to stop Controlled Digital Lending of the books we did buy.

@KorimakoEcology “No other pets are allowed free access to other people’s property.”
That’s a good article on what must be an unpopular topic in NZ. Pet cats have long had free rein to go wherever they want. It would certainly be good for birds and lizards in NZ cities if there was a gradual shift away from that. Plenty of other countries do it to some degree so we know it’s possible. There just needs to be national leadership and a fair transition.
