Also, in my experience Azure services (like AWS) are all "batteries not included". Want to know how much you've racked up this month using Azure services? You have to *pay* for an extra service to have that. Otherwise you have to *request a report from Azure support* which takes several days. Digital Ocean (like the other providers in that tier) tells you your current account balance for all the services you're using on every single page of their admin interface. And that costs $0.

Seeing people in the Fediverse promoting Microsoft and their Azure services... I have to say that in my experiences with MS Azure, it's focus is locking you into its proprietary services. They're just like Amazon's AWS. Both are 10-15 times more expensive than non-proprietary commodity services offered by myriad providers. We got better performance & a 90% cost reduction by shifting our #FOSS services to providers like DigitalOcean, Hetzner, and Linode among others.

I just learned that FedCo Seeds is a hybrid worker/consumer co-op that has been around for a good long time: fedcoseeds.com/

I'm going to join, and I really want to learn more about their experiences! :TwinPines:

Tax Billionaire Wealth and Pandemic Profits, Says Oxfam, to End 'Inequality That Literally Kills'

Does anyone know why the Platform Coop space regularly obsesses over DAOs and Crypto while ignoring Open Source? Hypes up Web 3 while ignore the Fediverse? Is it just lack of understanding, or something worse?

Installing an adblocker is the gateway drug into anti-consumerism, which is in turn the gateway drug into anti-capitalism.

Tell all your friends how to install adblockers.

Nick's put together a good intro to #FOSS apps for people still stuck as renters in a proprietary software world. invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v= or youtube.com/watch?v=uundIaRNJ6 #FOSS just tastes better.

"Big tech is facing an escalating backlash. Co-operatives could offer a more equitable and accountable alternative. In fact, some already do. This article describes three large co-operatives that have managed to take on tech giants such as Amazon and IBM."

Next time someone tells you cryptocurrencies and blockchain are about decentralisation, laugh in their faces. Loudly. While pointing at them.

Anyone out there using Photoprism (github.com/photoprism/photopri) or LibrePhotos (github.com/LibrePhotos/libreph) as a GooglePhotos/Flickr replacement? I'm wondering what you like/don't like, or if you've tried both, which you prefer!

The biggest COVID-19 failure is that COVID-19 failed to make a dent in the growth of the world population. It'll probably have a long term opposite effect by raising longevity due to an increase in health research. Of course, climate change is a much bigger killer than COVID-19 and has a better long term outlook, but it also has many extinction outcomes, which isn't desirable. Fighting climate change is only one piece of the capitalism-is-killing-us fight. So much pollution, so little time.

Income Share Agreement? more like Indentured Servitude Agreement.

Many of us were saying this when programs like Purdue's "Back A Boiler" were announced. Now the insidious nature of these programs is coming to light as the US Department of Education is pointing out they are illegally being portrayed as not a loan.
Participants are having to repay up to 250% of the loan's value, and don't have as much recourse as under a regular student loan. Mitch Daniels is a capitalist, raping my alma mater.
