One thing I've seen demonstrated over and over in 30+ years of maintenance programming is that most organizations have no fucking clue on how their code works. This leads to an irrational fear of change, and illogical decisions on implementing changes.
@lwriemen I didn't mean it was brilliant in terms of making anything better. I mean it's exactly the kind of 11th dimensional chess move that the right dreams of doing, by forcing the left to have to explain how capitalism is supposed to work and how This Is Very Much Not That before they can start in on Why Capitalism Is Bad, Actually
Leading the charge: how a drive for electric vehicles is cleaning up #Nepal - https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2025/apr/04/nepal-kathmandu-health-air-pollution-who-transport-electric-vehicles- "With air pollution causing a fifth of deaths in Nepal, growing EV use could add nearly three years to #Kathmandu residents’ lives" excellent news
I'd like to understand how Android handles some QMI bits and found tooling by @joelselvaraj for that on the @postmarketOS wiki (https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Qualcomm_Modem_Debugging). That needs a patched Android kernel, so I took some notes how I got that to work on a Pixel 3a. Just in case this is useful to others: https://honk.sigxcpu.org/con/Booting_an_Android_custom_kernel_on_a_Pixel_3a_for_QMI_debugging.html

Hello, world! We are Bunk Computer Cooperative -- a worker-owned technology #coop in Western North Carolina. We're building local computing infrastructure that's of and for Western #northcarolina
We're still getting off the ground, but we've been hard at work the last eight months and we're ready to introduce ourselves. We wrote an #introduction blog post that you can read at the link in our bio, and we'd be thrilled if you did! Boosts Appreciated!
Yours in bits and bytes,
Bunk Cooperators
@ubersoft The trouble is that it gives the left capitalists (like the DNC) an excuse to not move left. The Democratic Party can then push more neoliberal candidates, not meaningfully improve the lives of the working class, and guarantee a hard right turn in response.
In one respect -- and in only one respect -- this whole tariff thing is an unintentionally brilliant maneuver (absolutely unintentionally) because it's so fucking insane it's forcing even diehard leftists to explain how Trump is doing Capitalism wrong. It's almost like the Overton window got pushed so far to the right the left has to move right just to start the conversation about moving left.
If any of you want to do just one thing to make your life better - and improve the world - here's a very very simple thing you can do (and encourage your friends)... maybe, like me, some of you already do heaps of it... great, it appears you're on the right track: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=BV2PQjXbtXA or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BV2PQjXbtXA
Feeling some serious Weltschmertz today. Especially for the folks who're so busy scraping by that they don't even know what's going in the world - they won't have the chance to 'brace themselves' before the wave hits them. I encourage everyone to do what they can to protect & insulate themselves and those around them.
Gary is bringing on the heavy hitters.
Congress is pushing website-blocking bills that would let private companies erase sites from the internet—based on nothing but a hollow promise not to abuse this new power. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2025/04/congress-reviving-site-blocking-and-its-just-dangerous-ever
I heard Trabant, the crown jewel of nationalist economic protectionism, is planning to start heavily subsidised automotive manufacturing again, but this time, in the US. I look forward to a time when USians eagerly await, sometimes for years, the delivery of their 'legendary' Trabant, the storied pinnacle of 80s eastern European automotive technology.
