Grassroots efforts against dangerous technologies are changing the game! Little Rock joins the growing list of cities to reject ShotSpotter. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/02/eff-

A persistent problem in trying to have any solidarity with the American so-called left is the complete and utter lack of internationalism. In the big scheme, this is a pretty minor example, but it's instructive.

At any given juncture, they always choose exceptionalism and nebulous notions of the economy. Wars aren't bad because they're killing foreigners, they're bad because US soldiers die and the money should be spent on domestic social democracy for Americans instead. It's so empty.

A group of neo-Nazis went to Cincinnati Ohio this week to wave Nazi flags off of highway overpasses.

Only problem is they did this in a Black neighborhood that's had enough of their hateful bullshit.

Police were unwilling or unable to keep the crowd of pissed of Black Americans from running off the Nazis.

Ok, returning to the slow-burn project of finishing an important (to me) Drupal 7 to 10 upgrade. Drupal, you don't make it easy, although, I'm increasingly convinced that it's possible. I just have tighten up my feedback loop (i.e. I have to relearn all the stuff I've forgotten since the last time I looked at this a few months ago)...

The Government’s Computing Experts Say They Are Terrified:

Four IT professionals lay out just how destructive Elon Musk’s incursion into the US govt could be.

nobody yet knows which info #DOGE has access to, or what it plans to do with it...

Some folks have asked if I've left. Short answer is no, still here and consider this my primary social media spot. Longer answer is I'm attending to health issues and they get priority over all the other stuff, though I check in here when I can; I'm glad this community exists, and is so robust.

Lgbtq Couple I know in Washington DC just had their May wedding venue cancel on them citing ‘legal uncertainty’.

A History Museum heard of it and offered them a hall free of charge.

@ubersoft You might want to try mojeek or StartPage. I've found that Google has become unreliable. I try to avoid Bing as well, because it heavily pushes Microsoft sites.

OTOH, you might be best off to go to the mariadb repository and look in the issue logs.

History's grotesque rhymes

"As always, Black people are caught between the proverbial rock and hard place, not wanting to ignore Trumpian antics while also being wary of any connection with the likes of #AlSharpton. The confusion about what to do is rampant and mirrors the general sense of confusion about Black political activity."

@glynmoody Linus playing Prince of Persia is probably true, but the whole "play well with other [operating systems]" sounds like some Microsoft-washing. The ability to dual boot or even play DOS/Windows games natively certainly didn't help OS/2. Linux only survived the OS Wars because it was free (libre) software.
