The only unusual thing about this case of official racism in Texas is that the agency felt obliged to lie about it. These days, racism is loud and proud in the state.

There is the Open Search Foundation opensearchfoundation.org/en/ab

I first found out about them by exploring MetaGer search, which is run by a non-profit, suma-ev.de/en

On the for profit side, there's mojeek, who according to their principles doesn't track you or bias the search results. mojeek.com/about/

@lightweight @eff Yes. It's hard to claim a victory for freedom when your just exchanging forms of captivity.

@eff yes, except for the fact that, as with WhatsApp, Facebook/Meta control the client apps at both ends of the E2EE link... so that means they can truthfully say that the communication is E2EE, while still harvesting the message content (via a separate link between the clients) for advertising purposes.

@johnshirley2024@wandering.shop ...meanwhile Mike Pence is viewed as a sane Republican.

"More than 750 journalists and business-side staffers at The #WashingtonPost walked off the job today...

"The newspaper's acting CEO, Patty Stonesifer, announced plans in October to cut 240 jobs, about 10% of the workforce

"Union members say specific areas have been disproportionately targeted for buyouts, including metro news, copy editors and the audio team.

"'What they're doing is really going to decimate the local news desk'"

Maybe XPers have trouble saying, "analysis", because that might make Stephen Mellor appear. :-D

Type Inheritance & Relational Theory: Subtypes, Supertypes, and Substitutability by C. J. Date really nails down type inheritance, and shows how almost all OOPLs have it wrong. e.g., the "diamond problem" isn't an actual problem, just bad implementation.
The Shlaer-Mellor Commons needs to address this in the Shlaer-Mellor generalization rules. Finally, something juicy to work on!

Tomorrow I’m walking off the job with hundreds of my Washington Post colleagues because the company is breaking the law and bargaining in bad faith. Respect our picket line during our 24-hour strike by avoiding Washington Post journalism on Dec. 7, and send a letter to our bosses here: bit.ly/postguildsupport

ORG warns "Clause 2 could allow for the commercial exploitation of personal data under the guise of scientific research. By overextending the definition of scientific research, the clause risks undermining public trust in legitimate research activities."

The #DataGrabBill will “reduce transparency... such as by exempting researchers from providing information to large numbers of individuals or when personal data have been collected a long time ago.”

Our Health Minister wants more smoking

Our Climate Minister wants more coal mines

Our Minister for Regulation wants fewer regulations

Our Finance minister wants higher unemployment

You have to start wondering who they are working for.

If you use a Windows or Linux device, it's vulnerable to a new post-exploit attack that can remotely install an undetectable backdoor at the UEFI level. Updates from just about every vendor available today. Impressive work from @matrosov and the rest of Binarly.

3D Print with Purism.

Purism makes products that put you, the customer, in control. Generally, Librem devices are easy to disassemble for access to their internals. For the Librem 11, our focus in the first iteration is on the interior components rather than the chassis itself, which means it has an adhesive back.

If you or a friend have a 3D printer, it’s possible to replace that single adhesive component with a modular back cover and screws.
