@lightweight @fc it's a new usage paradigm, which means it's not the new generation's ignorance; it's ours. This was the approximate conclusion in the linked source article.
At some point, the search for the "blue shirt" in the laundry pile will yield an unwieldy number of results, and some other paradigm will take over. Maybe folders, maybe not.

@GuerillaOntologist the immediately following paragraphs are much more revealing as they talk about how everyone having a voice can bog down the decision making process. i.e., you need leaders with more power. Didn't read further to see if he takes it to the next level of "unwashed masses". ;-)
To the top 1%, $5 billion (USD) represents 0.0044% of the worlds wealth that they possess. Somehow I don't think that's necessarily praise worthy given that they are mostly responsible for the issue.

@liaizon @ephemeral @Anke libraries and parks are "public spaces", but they are somewhat distinct from other government owned "public spaces". e.g., government office buildings. They also are distinct from "community spaces", which aren't government owned. Hmm...

@ephemeral @Anke the idea that everyone just assumes going into the library is free and the assumption that you just go there without needing any “reason” is essential to the concept. If you walked into a library and they were like why are you here it would be a different experience. Remembering that this concept was created over time by humans and we are able to recreate this type of space with a new dynamic seems really powerful. It seems like we are missing much vocabulary in this space tho

If you have a Vodafone Ultra Hub router (like I do), I note that "Status->About" menu item (Advanced Mode) takes you to a page that says "Notice regarding Open Source software" which says "The product contains Open Source software. The resulting need [sic] licenses information's [sic] are listed in the following link." The link points to http://www3.technicolor.com/en/hi/minisites/open-software ... which redirects to https://technicolor.com which has nothing to do with open source licenses that I can see.

This has been bugging me for ages: how can we fix social and climate brokenness when lots of 'good' people's job hang in the balance? How can we broach the subject "Your role in that corporation is actively bad for the world. The better you do, the worse you make the world." It's not something anyone wants to hear... but highly paid folk voluntarily absorb incredible cognitive dissonance to justify how they pay their mortgage. Stuff like "if I didn't do it, someone else less ethical would"...
@lightweight I like this Jim Hightower quote, "Most of our (USA) super rich were born on third base and think they hit a triple."

EFF and @ACLU_NorCal recently discovered the San Francisco police unilaterally deployed a surveillance camera network against protesters marching in defense of Black lives. Now we're asking a court to hold them accountable for breaking the law.

Before assessing the value of synthestic starch, I really want to see a full life cycle analysis comparing this technology to traditional production. That seems to be where "vat meat" starts to look a lot more questionable (https://biobeef.faculty.ucdavis.edu/2019/12/15/cultured-meats-and-lca-statistics-what-do-the-data-say-2-of-4/).
In the meantime, it would be really nice if they provided units for this 8.5x efficiency number that all the science journalists are tossing around. Efficiency is usually calculated as units of product divided by units of some kind of input, but the results are very different depending on what kind of input goes in the denominator. Almonds are pretty efficient with regard to land, but a nightmare with regard to water inputs. Grassfed beef is extremely efficient with regard to fossil fuels, but a nightmare with regard to methane emissions. The journalistic coverage on this research doesn't specify, and at the moment I'm unable to put my hands on the _Science_ article, so the 8.5x number is basically meaningless.
