One has to wonder, that if by rejecting scientific methods of software metrics (like FPA), software developers have hastened the use of automated activity metrics to judge productivity (like keystrokes, mouse movement, and lines of code).

Metrics like function point analysis take into account time spent in thought, documentation, quality, etc. outside of coding. Those areas where real software development occurs. (Coding should really be automated.)
