My whole childhood, my whole young adulthood, this was my absolute favourite place in the world.

It was an incubator for engineering, electronics, art, and so much more. The hole left behind with its closure has yet to be filled. We need places like this again.

This is only true because the Chrome team in particular has decided to make it true. Old websites used to work until you decided it was okay to repeatedly break things that worked for a decade because you think everything can be rewritten or abandoned like a Google product

The industry's current approach to cybersecurity is to ban running non-preapproved EXE files from non-preapproved locations.

This is completely giving up on the idea of a computer as a thing that runs software created by the user. It is also an admission of complete defeat of the idea of an Operating System as a trusted guardian of security (because otherwise it would be safe to run EXEs).

It is likely that this won't be the last of user rights to go. Once gone, they will be hard to get back.

Imagine if you could file a digital restraining order against tech companies. If a creepy person follows you any time you leave your house, looks through your mail, and watches you from the street whenever you're at home, you can legally make them stop. Why not companies?
