@jgoerzen @Hawk1291 I was hopeful that FirefoxOS would have evolved into something suitable for a Chromebook replacement and be a viable alternative for education. Unfortunately the project targeted low end phones and died. There's more than the laptop & its OS, though. School boards buy into the entire service ecosystem. Even users with personal laptops are being trained/conditioned to use Google products exclusively. Ease of administration will have long term effects

@ehashman what was the downside of books which would make a dedicated stand better? Wondering if I should change my setup

@hypolite @cstanhope @Hyolobrika@mstdn.io Personally, I am against what the protest became. They hurt the wrong people and a large enough subset were terrible to the local residents and unrelated institutions that it diluted any point that they may have had.

That doesn't change my assertion that there's a place for digital equivalent to cash, and bitcoin is provably not it. I used bitcoin from when there were no exchanges. It's possible, and worked.

If your local pharmacy is selling homeopathic remedies and magnetic bracelets to cure ailments, you might want to question whether their primary motivation is health or profit

@cstanhope @Hyolobrika@mstdn.io monero is fairly widely used and can be exchanged to and from other cryptocurrencies or fiat via a few exchanges or directly with local people. This event has emphasized that bitcoin is less like cash and more like a digital gold equivalent that has subtle traceability. The benefit of cryptocurrencies over cash is that they can be transferred over large distances quickly. The downside is the massive environmental cost.

@info_activism interesting article, but difficult to read using Firefox on a relatively modern tablet as the scrolling is very, very slow. A bit ironic for a "low tech" website.
