I really wish the New York Times would cover the new Barbie movie just a little bit more.

Never had as much envy for a conference as watching the posts about #fossy

Responding to the "Start every phone call by saying 'My phone's about to run out of battery' so you can end the call whenever you want" meme by proposing a cryptographically verifiable remote attestation protocol for battery state

Starting to have a Chartreuse freakout. Will I ever see it again?

The first video from #FOSSY is out! 🎉 If you have been following our writing, you know our Policy Fellow Bradley M. Kuhn wrote about the recent RHEL policy change. As a continuation of that discussion, he led a keynote panel at the conference to discuss the issue with representatives from AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux and Oracle.

You can view the video and more information here: https://sfconservancy.org/blog/2023/jul/19/rhel-panel-fossy-2023/

Boost if you're old enough to remember ZMODEM.

Rough sketches of a few speakers at the just concluded #fossy conference here in Portland.. I leave it as an exercise to match the speaker to the talks!

Gave a talk at #FOSSY yesterday about #ReproducibleBuilds and #BootstrappableBuilds and how close we are to actually counter the infamous #TrustingTrust attack.

The slides are packaged as a Debian package, including a signed .buildinfo file, so you should be able to recreate my slides bit-for-bit identically!

However, my actual talk included a fair amount of non-determinism, thanks for all the great questions!

Videos should be available soon!

Home from and today's mood is jet lagged inspiration.

"The businesses that have trouble paying for the data that’s needed are the same businesses that are not investing in training or equipment.” is really one of the worst arguments I've heard. I'd counter that the businesses that have no trouble paying for hot takes like this dude's are the same businesses that are not investing in training or equipment. wired.com/story/automakers-say

Awesome to hear at about @outreachy "grandmentees" -- mentee whose mentor was a mentee of a mentor

Looking forward to getting into Non-profit boards at 4:30pm (PDT) today at #FOSSY -- Let's Talk About It! 2023.fossy.us/schedule/present

Great panel on the right to repair this morning at #FOSSY hitting lots of great energetic work in progress, including proposed legislation, normalizing device repair, educating and listening to less technical users, and a lawsuit. And of course, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved!

Stuart Geiger highlighting importance of recognizing varied types of contribution to open source projects in his talk at #FOSSY.

One example he cites is the "All Contributors" bot, which is a nice way to continuously update your README with contribution credits in areas like design, accessibility, translation, user testing, bug reports, ...:

github.com/all-contributors/ap

Underlying spec:

Very sad to hear that Ian Denhardt, GNU social developer, former intern and friend has passed away.

Now in the Community: Open Source in Practice track at #FOSSY: @spot on Open Source Anti-Patterns!
