Home from and today's mood is jet lagged inspiration.

"The businesses that have trouble paying for the data that’s needed are the same businesses that are not investing in training or equipment.” is really one of the worst arguments I've heard. I'd counter that the businesses that have no trouble paying for hot takes like this dude's are the same businesses that are not investing in training or equipment. wired.com/story/automakers-say

Awesome to hear at about @outreachy "grandmentees" -- mentee whose mentor was a mentee of a mentor

Looking forward to getting into Non-profit boards at 4:30pm (PDT) today at #FOSSY -- Let's Talk About It! 2023.fossy.us/schedule/present

Great panel on the right to repair this morning at #FOSSY hitting lots of great energetic work in progress, including proposed legislation, normalizing device repair, educating and listening to less technical users, and a lawsuit. And of course, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved!

Stuart Geiger highlighting importance of recognizing varied types of contribution to open source projects in his talk at #FOSSY.

One example he cites is the "All Contributors" bot, which is a nice way to continuously update your README with contribution credits in areas like design, accessibility, translation, user testing, bug reports, ...:

Very sad to hear that Ian Denhardt, GNU social developer, former intern and friend has passed away.

Now in the Community: Open Source in Practice track at #FOSSY: @spot on Open Source Anti-Patterns!

#FOSSY sticker exchange pile in the ballroom: Grab some classics or some local Portland rarities!

RIP Milan Kundera -- Unbearable Lightness of Being and The Joke were very important books for me at the time: npr.org/2023/07/12/1151021446/

This week feels like summer is in full swing.

We have been reviewing your talk submissions.

We are still looking for more volunteers.

And we are going to #FOSSY this week in #portland organized by @conservancy We will have a table there, so come and say hi!

We're excited to attend #FOSSY with
@conservancy this week! If you're already planning to attend make sure you stop by the #GNOME booth! If you haven't signed up yet, you can join us by registering online: 2023.fossy.us//

ATL wifi blocks imaps and vpn and forces me to enter my email address (you can reach me at info@example.com, friends). Good work.

Finally found the intersection of motivation, no meeting, < 35C, and no rain, to go for a run. First in 10 days. :(

Spent a good part of the day fixing issues with my proximity sensor. Sorry but I just don't think "sensor:modalias:of:Nlight-sensorT*Csensortek,stk3311:*" is a reasonable syntax. Anyway, it works now.

Folks, we still need a few more volunteers to help us with #FOSSY next week - who wants to spend a little time hanging at the rego desk? Volunteer tickets are free (though of course anyone can also email us if the lowest level is too much...)

For some reason I'm proud of myself that I've started consistently shutting down the computer by clicking the shutdown icon instead of switching to the terminal and typing "sudo shutdown -h now".

One week until FOSSY! Be sure to register this week so we have an accurate head count for lunch and get your fancy printed badge (see blog post!). We're so thankful to our track organizers, speakers, sponsors, volunteers and community members who have helped us put this together ❤️
