Are you referring to the same scientists that have been caught manipulating data, or are you only referring to the ones that get government grants to talk about how bad everything is?
@jlcrawf @Secftblgirl Can you cite an example? I've heard the opposite is usually the case and that it isn't for cynical reasons but that their models are conservative and factor in enough data.

Are the scientists the "source" or are they a "front" though? The people who make it to the upper echelons of academia are the people willing to sign off on just about anything for tenure and grants. In my experience, academics are the ultimate shills, selling their souls for status and money. And it doesn't matter what they say is going to happen really, as is evidenced by the problem changing every 10 years or so, the game is that they extrapolate some impending catastrophe, assign a solipsistic human origin, and then everyone stuffs their pockets cajoling governments and businesses to throw their money at the problem.
@jlcrawf I kind of picture the future being like that movie/book The Road after the 12 years. Hopefully it's not that bleak but things aren't looking good.
