@nixCraft I often use because it's installed on many more systems by default and I may not have the privilege/network to install software on the system.

@jc @nixCraft I don't think I've ever in my life used a distribution that didn't have vi installed in the base packages. Let alone one that replaced it with nano.

What systems are these?

@tomnardi @jc @nixCraft

At the end of the day, they all get the job done and do it well enough, but `vi` and it's forks have existed for 46 years with no sign of ever going away. I too would be interested to know what distro has replaced `vi(m)` for the relatively younger (released 23 years ago) `nano`.

@tomnardi @nixCraft Usually highly resource-constrained embedded systems with images built using yocto

Edit: I should specify that I'm talking about vim and not vi.

@jc @nixCraft

#vi is pretty much always installed by default on #linux systems

@zbecker @nixCraft Ok, but I'm talking about vim/emacs/nano here. Vim has never been installed by default for any embedded system I've worked on professionally.

@jc @nixCraft

Yeah, but my point is that if you know #vim, you basically know #vi

Personally I much prefer #vi to #nano
