When Archive.org is missing something, like the Voltz Wars Series by D_2the_avid, I am inclined to donate, so that it can archive more, and such content will not be lost to time. When it automatically archives something I don't expect, like big files on my website, I also feel inclined to donate, because the scale of that is just… amazing, and I am very grateful that it can archive even a site as small as mine.
Speaking of which, I should really update my website soon. It still has a really barebones homepage despite that I've been linking to it more lately, first on the RMS support campaign and now I've added it in my VRChat profile too. It only has a couple random mediocre webpages I've linked to, and I'd like to link to some of my newer things too, specifically my art, and some of my online profiles. Looking at Archive.org, the home page has been almost the same for years now.
I love Archive.org. Although they sometimes fail to Archive my favourite YouTube videos before they are deleted, with YouTube simply being too big (and I'm guessing hard to index) for everything to be captured... at least it appears that Archive.org does a very good job for small personal websites.
The two files I noticed specifically where my Goatsquirrel Belleza image, which is one of the renders I am most proud of, in its full 213M, 16-bit colour, 10800x5400 size:

Which is actually quite a bit smaller, at only 23M, but it's still weird seeing it have more success than YouTube on Archive.org.
My YouTube profile is non-existant on Archive.org, but my website has been archived a couple times on its main page, and has even more archives of my uploads, which appear on the internet (usually Reddit) much more often since I use it as a general-purpose file host to avoid having to rely on unreliable external hosting.
TIL that apparently you have a better chance of your videos being archived on your own website than from YouTube. I have seen many videos on YouTube, with tens of thousands of views, be lost to time with no archive on Archive.org, but on my own website at least one huge file and at least one video were automatically archived on Archive.org from its web crawler. Awesome!

We need to defeat this bizzare cognative dissonance people face when they have to re-evaluate the place email holds in their mind. It's not some useless relic of the last generation to cast off in the course of chasing the shiny new.
Email:
- Federated
- Decentralized
- Built with open standards
- Fault tolerant
- Enjoys a wide variety of open-source clients & servers
- Has widely available implementations for almost every programming language
- Already being used for software development at scales greater than GitHub-style development has ever dreamed of
"Email? Yuck"
Screw that noise. Set aside your preconceptions and look at email for what it is. The things that make you "yuck" about email are more related to the bastardization of email *software* by corporate interests like Google and Microsoft, and have next to nothing to do with email itself.

Holy crap, google is apparently taking down all/most fediverse apps from google play on the grounds that that some servers in the fediverse engage in hate speech. At least three apps I know of anyway and I'd imagine the others will follow soon under the exact same reasoning.} Seems to be the case with Husky, Fedilab, and "subway" tooter.
this is a scary precedent if google play is going to ban any apps that can in any way be used to access content with hate speech. So what about a forum client, do they take that down just because there is a forum somewhere on the internet posting hate speech?
This is particularly worrisome because for most people Google Play is the only way they understand to install apps at all.
