@kyle ok, I know it took me longer than you'd have liked ideally, but I'm entertaining the idea of contributing. My time is still madly limited, so I don't know that expecting anything is in order yet. But when I do get some time, how should I go about getting involved in contributing to Librem's Mastodon fork?
@f1337 That would be wonderful! I think the most useful contribution at the moment would be looking to adapt the patches made to our smilodon fork (https://source.puri.sm/liberty/host/smilodon/) that disable DMs and local/federated timelines etc, to the recent 4.0 release so we can upgrade to it.
@kyle
Awesome, thank you, I'll start looking!
@kyle created my source.puri.sm account. While I'm awaiting admin approval, are the deltas betw Smilodon & Mastodon covered in the list of merged PRs?
@f1337 I believe so.
@kyle
Ok so if I'm seeing the whole piece, it's really 1 massive PR that has all the backend changes. The rest appear to be UI tweaks. I am reading the big boi now.
@kyle
The big boi isn't as scary as it first appears. The add'l specs do a good job of communicating intent. Am I gonna freak anyone out if I throw my autistic energy at it this weekend through next?
@f1337 Not at all! We'd welcome the help!
@kyle
Ok I have the sysadmin steps for the upgrade to 4.0.2 written out long form, and a tl;Dr of just what to do. Once I get into gitlab, I'll copy my notes into a PR. Do we run in docker or something else?
@f1337 I'll see about setting up a Matrix chat for you Monday with some folks on the team to share your progress and findings.
@kyle
Working through merge conflicts. I hope the real time notes are ok? If not, lmk, I'll chill.
