TIL a surgeon named Robert Liston performed a surgery that had a 300% mortality rate. He amputated his patient's leg in under 2 and a half minutes who died from gangrene, amputated his assistant's fingers who also died from gangrene, and cut the coat tails of a spectator, who died from shock.

Kyiv will discuss with NATO the creation of a coalition of countries to help shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine's territory, President Volodymyr Zelensky told journalists on Aug. 4, Interfax Ukraine reported.
"We must work on the technical possibility of using combat aircraft from neighboring countries against (Russian) missiles that hit Ukraine in the direction of our neighbors. Foremost, the countries of the alliance," Zelensky said.

The European Parliament declared this date the European Holocaust Memorial Day for Sinti and Roma in 2015 in memory of 500,000 Sinti and Roma murdered in Nazi-occupied Europe. On the night of August 2 1944 the last 4,300 Sinti and Roma in the German Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau were murdered by the SS despite their fierce resistance.

The EU Court of Justice upheld on Wednesday (17 July) the European Commission’s decision to designate TikTok’s parent company ByteDance as a gatekeeper under the Digital Markets Act, dismissing all arguments presented by the company.
After sitting in a SBB RABe 501 “Giruno” for seven hours on an international connection, I was not entirely impressed with the experience. I really liked the interiour design and was delighted to have a power plug to myself and free wifi in both countries. However, the seats were quite underwhelming. Too hard and the head restraint uncomfortable. I tried to get some sleep, but was simply unable to do so.
