The Case Against by Hoffman is a wonderful read. If you’d like to learn more about biological consciousness, models of adaptation, and challenge all your preconceived notions about the of the “visible” universe as a consciousness emerged from evolution, this is a thrill ride!

Currently in a section about how our brain compresses information for adapted responses.

Who remembers the times you could predict the warmth you'd hear on CD based on the three letter sequences of:

A/D : recorded
A/D : mixed
A/D : mastered

So AAD was usually earlier CDs for artists who liked warmth but still wanted to sell the new format.

ADD was modernized without losing all the advantages of analog. Balanced.

*DA is 2020s cheaply produced vinyl where they press from a CD source lol.

DDD overly marketed as the digital future and some artists like Yes (Talk) bragged about it.

One way to read mastodon is via a command tool called "toot."
It's written in python and also offers a "TUI" (what kids today call a curses interface). Link to the project:

I mean, you can't rely on streaming anyway. Licenses come and go and I have mixtapes that aren't even a year old that feature tracks that already have expired licenses on streaming platforms.

Thank god I bought everything for offline playback at the time!

Oops, forgot to mention the iTunes store.

That's my last resort when I can't find things in proper 44khz 16-bit (CD) (or higher) uncompressed sources. I avoid AAC/MP3 as much as possible, preferring FLAC/AIFF/WAV instead.

Trying to buy and own music in 2022 (for mixtapes) is a pain in the ass anymore. Curse you streaming!

I lamented the effort required to a friend tonight...

For all it's advantages and faults, #Mastodon was not built to be a *new* Twitter. It was built to be *not* Twitter.

That distinction is important.

OK, here's a first post and why not using it to test out how sharing links work 😋

As you would have guessed from my handle, I'm a fan of the good ol' boxed computer games from back in the day and guess what, I've got all 700+ of them as high-res 3D boxed here on the net as well.
Head over to bigboxcollection.com and enjoy a trip down memory lane 🤓

When looking to interact on the Fediverse, culture is something *important* to understand.

A big component of the Fediverse community has been LGBT+, furries, the neurodivergent, and tech workers.

These folks have built the Fediverse.
