@alienmelon That reminds me of my days using GoLive. π₯°
One way to read mastodon is via a command tool called "toot."
It's written in python and also offers a "TUI" (what kids today call a curses interface). Link to the project:
I mean, you can't rely on streaming anyway. Licenses come and go and I have mixtapes that aren't even a year old that feature tracks that already have expired licenses on streaming platforms.
Thank god I bought everything for offline playback at the time!
Oops, forgot to mention the iTunes store.
That's my last resort when I can't find things in proper 44khz 16-bit (CD) (or higher) uncompressed sources. I avoid AAC/MP3 as much as possible, preferring FLAC/AIFF/WAV instead.
Trying to buy and own music in 2022 (for mixtapes) is a pain in the ass anymore. Curse you streaming!
I lamented the effort required to a friend tonight...

Lights, voice, action!
For all it's advantages and faults, #Mastodon was not built to be a *new* Twitter. It was built to be *not* Twitter.
That distinction is important.
Looking for other #academics on #Mastodon? Check out this list of lists, which appears to be growing by the day: https://github.com/nathanlesage/academics-on-mastodon
An excellent long read on the growing scientific consensus that #COVID19 exposure weakens immune responses, and repeat infections are an upward spiral of health risk:

New Sword Art Online game announced! Squee!
@Dan_Ramos Makes sense! Need that RAM. =D That's a good thought about the cleaning. Hadn't considered that. Do you supposed it was a design choice for a younger spill-prone audience?
OK, here's a first post and why not using it to test out how sharing links work π
As you would have guessed from my handle, I'm a fan of the good ol' boxed computer games from back in the day and guess what, I've got all 700+ of them as high-res 3D boxed here on the net as well.
Head over to https://bigboxcollection.com and enjoy a trip down memory lane π€
@Dan_Ramos I remember the Atari 400! I tried it at a friend's house. I found the flat keys to be difficult to use. Were you ok with it?
@atomicpoet Good reminders! Thanks!
When looking to interact on the Fediverse, culture is something *important* to understand.
A big component of the Fediverse community has been LGBT+, furries, the neurodivergent, and tech workers.
These folks have built the Fediverse.
Mastodon is really having a moment in mainstream news coverage. CNN, BBC, TIME, etc.
The influx of users will continue at an alarming rate. Remember to be welcoming, and kind, and positive, and helpful.
This isn't just an opportunity to improve the idea of social media, it's an opportunity to shine a wonderful light on #opensource.
"I'm moving the payload!", shouted Mercy as she helped me organize my home for a LAN gaming day. <3
