@notroot When I created paxilprogress.org it was to โ€œbring together peopleโ€™s experiences around SSRI usage.โ€ This refined over the years to, โ€œsupport everyoneโ€™s personal journey with and away from SSRIs.โ€ Because SSRI discontinuation syndrome was so traumatic, and nothing makes people write like pain (happy people donโ€™t join support groups as often haha), then it skewed further into SSRI withdrawal support. I tried to protect the support-during tone via informed consent.

@notroot The technique is to never be an open free-for-all database for people to journal in. A service provider has a purpose in life, and data has no intrinsic value. So define the parameters for assigning value to content, and for you to get value from it. The goal(s) donโ€™t have to be too specific, or they can. Thereโ€™s plenty of opportunity to be more open at first, then refine, or be more specific at first and then relax.

@notroot when I used to boot up communities and ran one in particular for nearly a decade. This strategy worked really well:
-Define the purpose of the user generated data. Whatโ€™s the goal of the community content?
-Define moderation guidelines that serve the content goal, and general kindness.
-Issue signalling system for community to self-report.
-Have enough moderators for signal responses and self discovery.
-2-3 warnings
-When banning, reference which moderation guideline.

In case it's not clear, wearing a mask indoors at all times means not eating entire meals at restaurants or hanging out inside bars.

For some reason, many of my very smart friends don't seem to understand this. They even Like all my posts about mask-wearing, and then they post pictures of themselves at meetings, dinners, concerts, etc with no masks in sight. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝ

COVID and public health, truth and lies

A friend and I discussing the increasing complexity of personal computing:

He: Now it is: โ€˜Net up? VPN connected? Email (accounts) working? DNS right? Battery not swelling? Mouse driver loaded? TB2/3/4 or USB-3/3.2/3.2 Gen1/3.2 2x2?

Me: And: Am I wearing pants? 1980s computers and dial-up networking are looking pretty good right about now! But not pants. Those can stay gone.

This couple kills me bwahaha!

Description: husband is on one knee looking at a short tree with low branch and needles count. After the wife makes fun with of his comment, she and the camera snap around and enter slow motion to follow her walking away with chin up, smugly. Her grin grows and the husband throws his hat in her direction. Video stops just before the hat makes contact with her head.

You know you're getting old when you recite some from Dylan Thomas (Do not go gentle into that good night...rage, rage etc.) to your dad, and he doesn't know what you're talking about, has never heard it, and doesn't understand its meaning.

Or maybe it's because I've seen more recent films that quoted it, like . ;)

Anyway, here's an impactful reading by Sir Anthony Hopkins: youtube.com/watch?v=Qnn9468vhw

When building or buying a computer, make sure it's special enough so that you relate to it as THE computer, not A computer.

You'll love it longer, reach for it with more passion as a creative tool, and in general the value returned will flow more and for longer.

It's also just tons more fun and leads to better system names like "Tangie" (99 iBook) or "Angel" (white PC case with Overwatch Mercy wing decal.)

Keep personal. ๐Ÿฅฐ

@iyashikei_kris@pettingzoo.co cotton swabs could leave behind fibres though. :) I got really good at using a finger tip and nail to roll and scrape, roll and scrape the rollers. The balls got the rinse treatment.

I haven't been captioning my images. I'm sorry. I'll do better. ๐Ÿค—

ATTENTION EVERYONE WRINGING THEIR HANDS OVER โ€œ#MASTODON ADMINS CAN READ MY DIRECT MESSAGESโ€: #SysAdmins have *always* been able to read your #email and DMs unless encrypted, including at the big #SocialNetworks and Internet providers. We used to have t-shirts that said, โ€œI READ YOUR EMAIL.โ€

Itโ€™s just hitting now because you got used to places where the admins were kept away in their cubicles and data centers instead of greeting you at the front door.
