@itsfoss I'm glad that you started boosting instead of creating new posts with the same links.

This idea is promising and I hope it benefits both the EU and the FLOSS ecosystem.

According to Foreign Policy, Moscow is supplying Iran with military gear and surveillance tech to help crush protests. From AK rifles to Spartak MRAPs, and deep internet control systems, Russia is backing Tehran’s repression, not with troops, but with tools to suppress and survive.

Absolutely horrifying images from Iran show hundreds, possibly thousands, of slain protesters. UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk said he is “shocked” by the regime’s brutal crackdown. One source told VahidOnline: “I traveled 1,000 km to access internet and send these images. Over 2,000 bodies were lying on the ground on Jan 10. One full refrigerated truck was already filled when we arrived.”

Estimated deaths that day: 2,000–3,000.

@redjives OpenSCAD is good if you can write code. No point & click there.

You might have used FreeCAD or some proprietary app/service.

@birkenator @noelreports Regular satellite dish is meant for geostationary satellites. Starlink terminals use beamforming to aim the signal at one of the moving satellites.

@birkenator @noelreports I suspect it's fine if you cover them with radio-transparent materials. Bigger problem is obtaining the terminal in the first place.

Are you into #opensource ? And in the #eu ?
There is a Call for Feedback by the European Commission for a 'European Open Digital Ecosystem Strategy' For strategic approach to #foss in Europe, and a framework for using open source within the European Commission. You can respond until 3 February. It is useful to respond even if your point has already been submitted by someone else. The number and repetition of arguments is used as a weight. ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-r cc #fosdem

@Gurre @noelreports Probably both more drones sent and more shot down. Ukraine is using more and more interceptor drones.

@ashed @itsfoss I believe 'secondary' is generally unused. The default one is 'clipboard' and the middle click one is 'primary'.

@itsfoss It might be confusing for new users coming from Windows or OS X, but it's very useful once you learn it exists. I'm glad there will be an option to turn it on.

@davep @noelreports 15-30k is not many, but at least someone is willing to provide boots on the ground. I was afraid no one would step up.

@noelreports He keeps switching the blame. Is it a way to alternate pressure between Russia and Ukraine, depending on who he wants concessions from?

@Rocquito @EUCommission Mastodon's EU servers are the best alternative to Twitter. Similarly, there are other Fediverse alternatives to proprietary social media. PeerTube, Diaspora, Friendica, Pixelfed, Lemmy, PieFed, Mbin, etc.

IMO the best web browser is Firefox. Yes, Mozilla is registered in the US, but it's a non-profit. We could use Mozilla Europe though.

@EUCommission I can recommend borscht with dumplings (barszcz z uszkami) and kutia (which you listed as kūčia). I'd add other Christmas Eve food, like fish soup, mushroom soup, cabbage with mushrooms as a dish of its own, as pierogi stuffing or with square pasta (łazanki). Add kompot (sweet boiled fruit drink) and poppy seed roll (makowiec) to that.

@notsoloud @noelreports I really hope these measures are meant to pull Belarus away from Russia, which would be good for us and for Belarus.

@icd Żeby tylko był jeszcze wygodny przycisk do wyrażania sprzeciwu w sprawie uzasadnionych interesów...

@bohwaz @davidrevoy Many people (correctly) refer to this kind of features as "AI" and so do various news outlets. I have seen multiple people upset at local models and asking how to delete them. I have seen people advertise Firefox derivatives that remove the local models with the lack of those models described as a feature. I believe this mostly stems from misinformation and this is why I will keep explaining that "AI" is a very broad term that includes good things as well as bad things.

@oddhack @x41h Yeah, the big tech LLM companies are terrible.

AI is a very broad term, encompassing multiple technologies, not just neural networks and especially not just LLMs. Additionally, technologies themselves are one thing, the big tech based on them is another thing. Blaming genetic algorithms for what OpenAI is doing would be silly. Let's use the right words for what we mean.
