@itsfoss How does clearing cache "optimize experience"?
@itsfoss A Fairphone with preinstalled /e/OS and support, interesting.
@itsfoss Wow, the wallpaper shown on the screenshot is quite ugly.
@itsfoss It's not open source though. It's a proprietary, source-available app.
@mariubrlu@mastodonapp.uk @itsfoss I'm concerned about privacy, but not about AI in general. I am however concerned about proprietary AIs and the people wielding them.
@Tarlak @itsfoss For command line, I recommend a bunch of fresh utilities written in Rust: ripgrep (better grep), fd-find (better find), bat (better cat), hyperfine (simple benchmarking), lsd/exa (better ls/tree), delta (better pager for Git), and others. There's even a fzf replacement among them (skim) but I didn't try it, so I can't recommend it.
@biggestsonicfan @itsfoss First time I hear about it. Looks promising. I was using DupeGuru before.
@abhinavjha @itsfoss On Linux, there's Evolution for example. But the new Thunderbird has a new UI by default, maybe you'll like it more than the previous one.
@Linux_Is_Best@mastodon.social @itsfoss Huh, I didn't expect that. I passed on Kbin after seeing the warning on their website, saying it's a very early beta.
@itsfoss Meta is ♋
@dboehmer @fdroidorg This. Separate account for app news. For significant news, like popular apps getting added or receiving big new features, the main F-Droid account can boost/repost the relevant toot, but please not too often.
@itsfoss I'm worried about the airflow with a solid front panel and only one exhaust fan. These cases seem like a better fit for lower-power PCs. The CPU fan duct is interesting, but it might not be enough.
This is a great series from our friends at @eff on the current state of news media and how big tech has contributed to creating the current landscape dominated by an "oligarchy of gatekeepers" https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2023/04/saving-news-big-tech
@xtaran @grote @fdroidorg As I understand it, it's for example for human rights activist in dangerous countries. If they are e.g. in danger of being arrested, they trigger panic with a special app. Then all apps that support the panic feature will react appropriately, like delete chat history, contacts or files. I'm not sure why anyone would want to hide F-Droid though.
@itsfoss Yep, it works now.
@itsfoss Link is broken, shows Cloudflare's 502 bad gateway error.
@itsfoss Huh, I just learned that Gnome has media sharing. The package for that is apparently called "rygel".
@purism Stating the problem in this way is not very useful. Nobody would like their device to offer absolutely no privacy (e.g. everyone can browse your filesystem), absolutely no security (publicly available shell), or no freedom (every command or action needs third party approval). A certain amount of each is essential. A better question would be how much of each is a hard requirement for you and how much is merely nice to have.
@486timetable@mastodon.green @toddo @auschwitzmuseum @tylerzonia
You have fundamentally misunderstood the message, which is to realize that they were incredibly evil humans. Not magical monsters from outer space. Normal people living all around us could also become this evil if they start believing in an evil ideology like Nazism.
Calling Nazis monsters implies that regular humans cannot become this evil. But we can. Believing we cannot makes it more likely that such atrocities will happen again.
@billyhampton @auschwitzmuseum They are interchangeable. Wikipedia has background information if you are interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanukkah#Alternative_spellings
