@linmob could it be that the FOSS drivers for the Mali GPU aren’t that advanced than the one used in the Librem5? Not sure if they work with binary blobs there...

@appelgriebsch Drawing conclusions from this (youtube.com/watch?v=j9TkzIKV9g) video it's likely not the driver. There might be some potential for improvement on the driver side, sure, but you have to keep in mind that the Mali 400 GPU was announced in 2008. It did a great job in devices like the Galaxy S II (at a 800x480 px resolution), but it is just a pretty limited GPU in 2020.

@appelgriebsch I am pretty sure that @dos /@purism@librem.one only use the etnaviv driver, which afaik does not require blobs.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 with Mali-400 MP4 and judging by its performance in Animatch with closed driver on Android, the performance on the PinePhone is pretty much what I'd expect to see there.
