@omnipotens Wine is the answer to everything 🍷 🍷 🍷 😜

@ChrisWere@linuxrocks.online it's a bit overkill but nothing beats winamp 5.56. Xmms tried but if you give it a shot, you'll see what I mean. It does have some drawing issues on gnome, but for some reason it's lightning fast on lxde

@ChrisWere@linuxrocks.online forgot to say, make sure you use icon wall to make it like a jukebox you find in the pub. For a simple mp3 player with good visuals, I still use Winamp 5.56 via wine. It was the best version before it had too much bloat.

@ChrisWere@linuxrocks.online just listened to the opus podcast as the Internet is crap out in the North Sea and it was perfect. BTW for your music on linux, people always overlook Kodi which I find great as a jukebox type thing and is accessible on my android devices too.

@nuala@toot.wales If you have Telegram installed you can type 'apps' in the search bar. There are a few molded apps for popular video streaming sites, Disney, Netflix etc. Not sure how safe they are as they are molded tho. Use at your own risk.

Azure StarLink Teams!!!

This is how skynet starts in our timeline.

@lunduke
I hear that Tilde Swinton is reprising the borg queen role for picard, she just hasn't got the Memo. Ps my phone doesn't have the tilde key :-(

@lunduke
Pipe up, at least it's not kubernetes. I hear that causes schizophrenia and a bad rash!

@hexdsl Just came across this clearly well researched documentary, however I fear you may have overlooked one other program. As may people these days try to "de-google" their online presence, this one may have been incorrectly swept aside. I am of course talking about Googly Eyes.
The original and best eyes that are googly and follow your mouse pointer around the screen. Some may argue that this is "too much tracking of my actions on MY pc" but I'd argue, this is what the X server is all about.

@chriswere@share.tube I have been flicking through a lot of fediverse based chat and video sites since I work at sea, and most of the big platforms are blocked. Also I've been using Linux Mint so I'm in control of my updates. So far I've kept my bandwidth low so the office dont start banning all my tech fix websites. Even to go so far as to use IRC for news feeds until they blocked the port😠 I was wondering if you know of some yesteryear based (dialup speed 56k) software I should be looking into.
Cheers

I've had a few problems with Fedilab which I installed from googles play store when I was on dry land, (2weeks ago) then it just stopped working altogether. I've got Fedilab Lite from f-droid and it works fine. I'm not sure if there is more to Googles Fu*kery with the hate speech thing than I first thought, ie not just installation problems.
Anyway... Toot tooooooot lol

Unless Greggs renounce the EU completely and call their French Fancies something like Fraserburgh Fairies, the BBC will praise the pastry mongers as saints and health food champions!

I'm fed up closing sites who say

"We respect your privacy but plan on installing a data hoarding server on your device anyway, to continue using our site you must

a: Agree

b: Agree and look at some of the stuff we're scanning.

c: Agree and possibly sign over rights to your lungs and spinal fluid

d: Agree and submit that I AM NOT AN INDUVIDUAL, I AM NUMBER 6"

I can't get over this boxy goodness

I can't explain what it is exactly, but something about the Lada Riva just strikes me the right way

Every one of my car-nut friends feel completely the opposite way. But I like it for its flaws too. It's held together by a few screws and duct tape, you can fix it with chewing gum and hope, and the skin is made of depleted Uranium (really, really, really thick steel)

But this particular one, the 2107, and this color just seems so perfect to me

My brother is a Daughter Craft Coxswain/Able Bodied Seaman based on a on a lifeboat hospital ship (that's my term for it).

The Covid-19 escalation and global lockdowns all happened a good while after he had originally set sail. The crew are all fine and are now half way through their second stint, in a row, offshore, after being asked to stay on.
Huge respect for everyone aboard the ship.

He just sent these photos. The first is the biggest floating crane in the world, which came by earlier. The second shows the crane lining up with an oil platform that, itself, holds up to 400 people over five stories. This thing is big. He described it as being as big as was our high school!
