@devrtz Can I run the #flatpak on the #Librem5? Chatty seems an essential package in #PureOS.
Or will this version be released to the official Librem 5 repo?

@janvlug @devrtz We don't get much feedback from flatpak users (as Chatty is usually recent in most distros) but see e.g. gitlab.gnome.org/World/Chatty/ . So in case you try it feedback in that issue we be welcome.

@agx @devrtz I installed the Chatty flatpak on my L5, and flatpak list shows version 0.8.5. But strange enough, when I start Chatty from command line with: flatpak run sm.puri.Chatty, Chatty starts, but the about window still shows version 0.7.3

@janvlug @devrtz Looks like you had the system instance still running (starting chatty would then just activate that one).

@agx @janvlug @devrtz maybe do this first:

killall chatty
killall chatty
... and then try the other thing again?

(at least at some point a few years ago I remember it being like that, that you needed to kill chatty twice because the first time it would get auto-restarted)

@eliasr @janvlug @devrtz I would even uninstall the system chatty as otherwise two processes try to take SMS out of the Modem. (and after uninstalling make sure there's no process running).

@agx @eliasr @devrtz

I tried that with:
sudo apt remove chatty

But I got this message:
"The following packages will be REMOVED:
chatty librem5-gnome librem5-gnome-phone

WARNING: The following essential packages will be removed.
This should NOT be done unless you know exactly what you are doing!
librem5-gnome librem5-gnome-phone (due to librem5-gnome) chatty (due to librem5-gnome-phone)
..."

which looked like something I should not do.

Yup, better not do that (`dpkg --force-depends` would work to remove system chatty temporarily but it'll get pulled back in on updates).

Another option is to move away /etc/xdg/autostart/sm.puri.Chatty-daemon.desktop when running the flatpak (which AFAIK does not get autostarted on boot so you might not get new SMS).

Chatty is tightly integrated into the system on phones, I think the flatpak is currently more of a demo for systems where it's not running yet.

@agx @eliasr @devrtz Thanks for the info. The new Chatty looks very good on the L5.

But, I'm using my L5 currently as my daily driver on Byzantium. I do not want to mess up receiving and sending SMS. So I think I will uninstall Chatty 0.8.3 flatpak again and use the version that comes with PureOS for now.

Running it as a demo was great! I will try the new Chatty a bit on my Fedora systems for Matrix.
