Shower thought: Why is nobody working on nice, modern OpenDocument editor apps?
Is it because there are no good backend libraries? If so, why is nobody working on those? Is the spec just bad? Too hard to find funding? Too boring a subject?
Do I know anyone with experience working on documents/office stuff, or has insights on the topic?
@tbernard Perhaps LibreOffice works well enough to not be a big itch for people to scratch?
@pwithnall Possible, but in my experience most people either actively avoid using it, or struggle/complain about it when they do.
People write new versions of apps all the time, for all kinds of reasons, even though there are existing apps that already do the job. We have tons of music players, Todo list apps, terminal emulators, and so on. Why no office apps?
Part of becoming an elite programmer is leaving behind so-called "office apps" and embracing text editors, tui apps, REPLs, and the shell.
I have better tools to handle 80% of the use-cases for office apps, so for me, they're already mostly replaced.
