How do people feel about 'programming ligatures'? I have some thoughts.

In university, I got marked down on a quiz for writing ≥ instead of >= on a handwritten programming quiz. (Python doesn't support unicode equality operators). I wish I had known enough to tell my professor "my handwriting just has ligatures enabled!"
