@igeljaeger I will admit I don't know much about german culture and also that I am pretty anti-alcohol compared to the average person (it tastes absolutely disgusting to me).

@terryenglish @igeljaeger No, my parents don't drink at all. Might've influenced me to grow up thinking it's bad, but I've tasted it myself and it's disgusting, and not "worth it". I'd genuinely rather have a milkshake and pop some amphetamines or alprazolam or something. I don't get this crap where you sip on something that tastes gross and burns your throat for a pretty mediocre feeling and potentially feeling sick the next morning too. I've never been able to stand the stuff long enough to get proper drunk myself, but I had some rum, wine, and lager a few weeks ago and felt sick all day. I went on a bike ride and thought I was gonna vomit. I don't think I even felt any sort of buzz at that point, and I already felt I'd made some big sacrifices to drink that stuff.

My German beer doesn't "burn my throat". Lemme guess, you don't like black coffee either because its bitter? The drinking age in Germany is 16 for beer and wine for a historical and cultural reason. Actually in most euro countries it's that low. Just let this thread die now

@igeljaeger @terryenglish I should probably specify that beer (having less alcohol in general) doesn't burn the same way rum and such will, but going back to what I said previously about hating sipping on something gross for a long time, I lean toward the higher alcohol content stuff so I can just get it over with. I can almost understand the logic behind taking shots, although they're quite uncomfortable compared to taking a small pill, which at worst will be bitter or salty but just for a second.

Correct, yeah. I'm not huge on coffee or tea. I do sometimes wonder if my tastebuds are used to having a lot of sugar so that I don't react as well to bitter things. My parents also don't like coffee or tea. My older brother seems fine with both, but for all I know he had to train himself to like him, which I'm probably unwilling to do.

@brad @terryenglish I've been drinking coffee and beer since I was 15 and never drink "strong alcohol". Only wine and beer. Drinking vodka etc to "get it over with and get drunk" is pretty degenerate

@igeljaeger @terryenglish I've literally never been drunk in my life to be clear, it's more of a mindset (drinking the hard stuff to get it over with) than how I actually live my life. I will always turn down alcohol. I've made the effort to give alcohol a chance maybe 3-5 times, but in general I don't touch even a drop of the stuff.

@brad @terryenglish it's just very surreal to me that you just lump stuff like german beer and medicine tasting vodka under one term. Both have a very different audience

@igeljaeger @terryenglish I kinda get what you're saying... As far as considering alcohol's main purpose to be getting drunk, that's probably just a personal thing that stems from it all tasting bad to me. I get people probably taste beers or wines in the way you'd have an expensive dinner, but I can't get into it so I dismiss that part of it. I can relate more the the people who buy the scary-cheap vodka or whiskey to drink by themselves. I've seen friends drink stuff from all across the board when hanging out. Seems like sometimes they're trying to get drunk, and sometimes not so much.
I'm not trying to insult germany or whatever. I know you guys have oktoberfest which is probably almost entirely about beer. I'd just rather have good food or drinks that taste nice so it's hard to relate to this culture of drinking alcohol all the time.

@brad @igeljaeger Clearly you just have too good of a sense of taste. Once you're older and more of your tastebuds die your tastes will change. When I was younger I hated beer too.
