Got a new computer, so I'm once again on the #linux #distro search.
After a year with #fedora and #gnome I think I want something else. I like many things in gnome's visual properties, but the anti-customizability is too much for me as I ranted before. Also the RedHat shenanigans don't contribute to me staying in that ecosystem...
Stumbled upon a couple of videos on Rhino Linux and I'm intrigued. Anyone has impressions to share?

@yaarur I recently switched from Mint to Debian 12 with Cinnamon as the DE. The Software/Update manager isn’t as nice and flexible as Mint’s. I sometimes use NixOs for installing apps that are otherwise unavailable.

I'd really like something that would require less tinkering and problem solving this time 😬
Was even considering sticking with the Ubuntu the laptop came with!

This might be a hot take, but you probably have only 3 or so options for Linux:
Debian Based, RedHat based, Arch. Most everything else is a spin on these. Reading your comments above I recommend Debian.

As for UI, Gnome it probably more flexible than you mentioned, I hope I'm not repeating known information but I haven't seen this in the thread, did you get to mess around with
https://extensions.gnome.org/ ?

@stags
Yes out of the 3 I plan to go back to Debian based distro. But I don't want vanilla Debian at this point, I prefer to get the extra features and polish added by the "daughter" distros.

As for Gnome, here's my previous rant:

With the addition that extensions may break upon upgrading (which happened to me on the last upgrade with some basic extensions such as adding tray items...)
