You're not supposed to make jokes about billionaires (you know, the people destroying the planet) getting killed because of their hubris? Okay then: I'm glad the billionaire got crushed in his imploding tin can. See? No jokes

@eniko @efi @wasabi
These particular ones don't look super bad, they even took part in some nice charities from what I've read. I'm not super-sad for them, I'm just refraining from dancing on their graves. If Bill Gates died, I'd probably even open some good stuff to celebrate. I won't be sad if someone burned the Google office down with everyone inside either, but this isn't the case. They might have inherited their wealth β€” this isn't a sin IMO. Would I be able to say goodbye to the wealth I inherited just to appease the masses? Probably not.
If you have inherited your wealth and try to pretend it was your talent and hard work and tell people how to live their lives β€” that's different. In this case one can get his rectal cancer and die in pain, I don't mind.
Same with this c*sg*ns*r stuff β€” this was another dumb move of Elongated Muskrat, most of them are. But a lot of these jokes get down to making people feel ashamed just because they are the majority. I am that majority too and I do my best not to do wrong things. Should I feel ashamed for being white or being male or being straight? I don't think so. A lot of these jokes don't feel right to me. Mind you, I can't forbid you from making these jokes, no one can. I'm not even going to run around convincing people that it's wrong, but I'm not going to join this either β€” some of these jokes just borderline bad taste to me🀷
@efi
I don't think I'm aligning with them, I'm just not aligning with those who make these jokes. And I'm not doing that because it's cruel or something. I've been thinking about it recently and I think I know why it feels wrong to me. True, they did stupid shit that most can't afford, but we're still trying to make fun of those who are already dead. And it's not like they did something bad and it backfired β€” that would be funny, but here basically they just did stupid shit and died. And we don't know a thing about them except that they were wealthy, we aren't even sure they were destroying the planet or something like that. Some kid could've climbed a tree and fallen off it β€” is it funny? Might be, might be not β€” but it definitely doesn't feel like doing the right thing, like divine retribution or something.
Same with cancelling people or companies. No one's putting enough effort into cancelling Google despite them doing the worst imaginable things, yet some (I'm not speaking about you in particular, but there are people like that) put effort into some US politician who was stupid enough to paint his face black in college. Of course if he did that today that would be unacceptable and he would deserve all the hate, but he did it like 40 years ago and not out of hate, he was just a dumbfuck. And they've put enough effort into it so even I know about this and I'm not even a US citizen and not too well versed in anti-racist activism. What a waste β€” it feels pointless. At least they didn't "cancel" Hitchcock for that scene in which people throw eggs at black guy at some fair. Of course he didn't do that to promote racism β€” I doubt it was even perceived in the 30ies the same way it does now.
Then again, who am I to tell people what to do and who to hate, but it still doesn't feel right. I have nothing against bashing Elon Musk because he's still alive and is still doing stupid shit. These guys did stupid shit too, but they are already dead.
Bashing Bill Gates after death would feel right too because we know what he did and if people won't do it, someone would likely start speaking of his legacy sooner or later β€” he's a scum down to the bone, that's his real legacy. But these guys? We don't know shit about them, it all feels like beating someone who's not able to respond. If you're into that Ββ€” enjoy, I'm not the one to stop you. But doing that with a sense of purpose? That's poor taste to me.

@eniko @wasabi

@m0xEE @eniko @wasabi they spent 250000$ each just on that, with that money they could have built an entire hospital
no, they did a lot of wrong even if we don't know exactly what, and they at least wasted a fortune on nothing, which is criminal

@efi Well, not doing good is different from doing evil. I could've cooked for five homeless people, but I've wasted this time talking to people on Fedi β€” that doesn't make me a bad person. It's not drinking expensive cognac that makes people bad, it's taking money to buy that cognac from those who can't afford even most basic things that does.
If there are no such facts, there are way better targets for all this hate, that's all I say 🀷

@m0xee@librem.one @efi @m0xEE@breloma.m0xee.net @eniko Actually fun fact : two people out of the five men crew didn't want to go. The french scientist, and the billionaire's son.

Knowing they both died with them following that stupid project they did not have any trust in, yes, they've actually done something bad.

@m0xee@librem.one @efi @m0xEE@breloma.m0xee.net @eniko At least that's the information french medias relayed, I'm not in the position to confirm or debunk that piece of information. But it's still worth noting imho.

@wasabi Well, that is something!
Maybe I have to investigate a little after all β€” just to have somewhat weighted opinion.
This was going on for what, like a couple of days? I was reluctant to join the party because I know literally nothing of them, the fact that most of those who rejoice don't seem to know a thing either is a bit odd.
TBH even the name OceanGate looks like a pun πŸ˜„
@efi @m0xEE @eniko

@m0xee@librem.one @efi @m0xEE@breloma.m0xee.net @eniko Well if I was you, I wouldn't "dive too deep" into the conspiracy theories, you might even find an "iceberg" at one point :blobcat3cSmirk:
