@alexwinter if spoofing is your main concern, you can also link a known website associated with you to your mastodon profile, and it will appear as “verified” by a green highlight like the below. Use the rel=“me” attribute in the link.

@vipergeek Fosstodon just finished an update of their systems, so I'm fairly certain that is the cause.
@vipergeek Here's the docs for providing proofs for Mastodon (tho given how swamped most instances are right now they might not verify due to the stress):
