Question for the fediverse hive mind: I want to join another server but would rather not have multiple separate accounts, to prevent spoofing. Can I link to other servers from this one?

@alexwinter if spoofing is your main concern, you can also link a known website associated with you to your mastodon profile, and it will appear as “verified” by a green highlight like the below. Use the rel=“me” attribute in the link.

@katherined @alexwinter Another useful service for verifying yourself is #Keyoxide. Which looks like this when used:

keyoxide.org/hkp/6C32610C1F915

@bpepple I see that your fosstodon.org proof failed ❌. I'm having the same issue:

keyoxide.org/hkp/0xC5BBC32B0B7

Do you know how to provide proof to #keyoxide for Mastodon accounts?

@vipergeek Fosstodon just finished an update of their systems, so I'm fairly certain that is the cause.

@vipergeek Here's the docs for providing proofs for Mastodon (tho given how swamped most instances are right now they might not verify due to the stress):

docs.keyoxide.org/service-prov

@alexwinter and there are instructions and code to copy under your profile -> appearance settings. There should be a heading that says “Verification.”
