Registered my nick on #freenode in 2010, although first started using #irc in 1994. Been on many academic and company irc networks throughout the years, but longest has been on freenode. Time to move on...

@cybette im now on libera.chat server lots of freenode channels are moving there

@jameshjacksonjr

yeah, I registered on both #libera and #oftc. different projects I follow or am involved in are planning on migrating to either of the two, so let's see.

also using @matrix to bridge to oftc (and bridge to libera is in the works).

@cybette @matrix do you feel any projects will use this as the time to just move their project to matrix or what do you feel keeps projects using IRC in this day and age? Specially with stuff like materix spaces coming and now in beta

@jameshjacksonjr @matrix

I know some projects are considering the move to matrix.

many still stick with IRC because it works everywhere. while Matrix has great features, to fully make use of them you need to run a client like Element, which can be rather resource intensive.

Follow

@cybette @matrix those working on old hardware alsop prefer IRC like on my pinebook pro i like to use IRC and for matrix i use gomuks github.com/tulir/gomuks
But your correct you need to use element to use most of the new features i just prefer to work in the terminal so will always use IRC and will use Matrix in the terminal as well
