I have upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S9 to a new release of the deGoogled /e/OS operating system. This new release also included upgrade of Android version to 12. If I had stayed on Google-Samsung-Android it had still been on Android 10 without even security updates. Thanks to /e/OS, and LineageOS in behind, I get Android security updates as well!

@hehemrin

Do you know if Galaxy S8 is supported too? Would be nice to try upgrade mine to that if so.

@tsvenson Looks promising, from a quick view of the table it is even supported with the "Easy installer". Note, check carefully details exactly tha your version of S8 is supported - some models have variants, different chips etc and only one may be supported. And it appears as it may still be on Android 11, I have not checked plans (check 1st what Lineage has). See this page: doc.e.foundation/easy-installe
After I installed /e/OS first time, I wrote this blog post in Swedish: hemrin.com/business-blog/opera

@hehemrin

Mine SM-G950F is in the list. Exynos is Samsung own chip. They used it for the model sold in Europe, while using a Snapdragon chip in models for other markets.

Cool, another fun holiday nerd project 😎

There, charged and started for the first time in a year. It has Android 9, so an upgrade to 11 makes it more useful again.

Luckily it seems the battery is still in good shape. That is no swelling 😅

@hehemrin
How hard was it to do? I have tried to install postmarket OS and failed, I have tried to install Ubuntu Touch and failed, and I have tried to install Calyx OS and succeeded, all on a Pixel 3a XL. Actually that Ubuntu Touch installation succeeded in installing, just would only boot to a restore screen. Calyx was pretty good but not really a complete solution like /e/ is supposed to be.

@zaivala My model (exact model must be checked, not all eg chipset variants may be supported) is supported by their "Easy installer" tool. I couldn't get it working on Linux nor Windows, but I got the installer working on macOS - don't ask me why. Once the Easy installer was working, the installation was easy. And every new /e/OS release has worked fine for me, incl those with Android version upgrades.
