On June 15, 1667, the first direct blood transfusion to a human was performed by the physician Jean-Baptiste , when he gave a feverish young man approximately 12 ounces of taken from a lamb.

We have come a long way since then. I did my part to save lifes, and was donating blood today. I'm sure the recipient(s) are happy not to rely on lamb blood anymore.
