Episode 57: F-Droid (featuring Sylvia van Os & Hans-Christoph Steiner!) fossandcrafts.org/episodes/057

F-Droid, a repository of free software on your Android device! @cwebber interviews F-Droid developers @SylvieLorxu and @eighthave@social.librem.one alongside chair of the F-Droid board... @mlemweb!!!

@fossandcrafts @cwebber @SylvieLorxu @mlemweb thank you so much for this from a longtime F-Droid devotee!

Curious: what do y'all think about the @efoundation App Lounge that embeds F-Droid?

@cwebber @fossandcrafts @SylvieLorxu @mlemweb @efoundation It's really nice. I'm now testing a Fairphone with e/OS. It is the most integrated pro-FLOSS mobile experience I've had. The app store is a fork of Aurora with FDroid repos prioritized.

@ntnsndr @cwebber @fossandcrafts @SylvieLorxu @mlemweb @efoundation /e/ foundation prioritizes ease of use over , they are more about being -free. If you want human-reviewed Free Software, then stick with f-droid.org as your only app source. The official client provides free software, as easy as possible.

@eighthave @cwebber @fossandcrafts @SylvieLorxu @mlemweb @efoundation thanks for this! I must say e/OS really increases the convenience of installation and updates, as well as embedding with Play apps. But FDroid repo apps are clearly marked and prioritized in e/OS search results. Is there a disadvantage to not using the FDroid app itself?

@ntnsndr @cwebber @fossandcrafts @SylvieLorxu @mlemweb @efoundation I don't know much about how their app works, but I can tell you that takes privacy, security, and transparency very seriously, for example f-droid.org/docs/Security_Mode
