Albo & Co. Pty. Ltd. want to hand over sovereignty of Australia to weapons corporations and foreign governments.
'Defence Minister Richard Marles introduced new legislation to Parliament yesterday that will allow Australian and foreign forces to override existing State and Territory laws. It also allows the Minister to declare new ‘defence areas’ and ‘defence security zones’.'

The proton CEO is the latest business idiot using the phrase "lovingly handcrafting" about code like it's a slur. I've put down my thoughts more eloquently & generally here https://blog.glyph.im/2026/10/programming-isnt-special.html but I do want to be direct about this specific phrasing and this attitude towards skill & quality:

Why did Israel grant Palestinians it conquered in 1948 citizenship (if under belligerent military rule) but not Palestinians conquered in 1967?
In 1948, Israel only had to grant ~150,000 Palestinians citizenship relative to the 600,000 Jews (a number that rapidly increased beginning in May 1948... that had already exceeded a million by 1949).
In 1967, Israel would have had to grant over 1 million Palestinians citizenship relative to the 2.3M Israeli Jews at the time (a number that was no longer rapidly increasing).
There were simply too many Palestinians by 1967 to grant them citizenship.
Ever since, Israel has been kicking the can down the road.... in the process it has imposed an apartheid regime on them and is now genociding them, in both Gaza and the West Bank.

Bizarre 7.30 story regurgitating the easily disproven trope that investors leaving the rental market leads to higher rents.
Even included an 'expert' academic who lamented that there are no longer any incentives for landlords, despite the fact that negative gearing and the CGT discount still apply to new builds, and an increase in investor loans for new builds is already happening.
Terrific to see Lula won in Brazil's election runoff, defeating the fash Bolsonaro, who in a display of mala leche, still isn't conceding. Trumpolini will be miffed. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2026/10/25/brazil-election-results-2026-live-polls-close-in-lula-bolsonaro-face-off #Brazil

We are in a very dangerous time, when "AI" security companies are competing to prove that their technology will provide returns on investment. The industry has always been broken. There has always been an incentive to inflate the importance of vulnerabilities, but there was always a risk of burning hard earned trust. In the end, a lot of folks decided it wasn't worth it.
But "AI" companies haven't worked to earn that trust. They have something to prove, right now, or they don't exist. So now everything is critical, "impossible to find without AI," and so on. Blah2shell sells, and now everyone wants their little vuln labeled that way regardless of the complexity or risk.
Burning trust in security is the absolute worst thing you can possibly do in terms of tech. I'm worried about where things are going right now.
There have always been more bugs than we can fix. We've had to triage. If we break that, we flood maintainers until they burn out. Our job is not to fix everything. It's to filter information for the people who do.
But right now I'm reading vuln reports that aren't distinguishing between a 100% reliable and trivial exploit like log4shell and complex memory corruption bugs that are incredibly noisy and basically impossible to exploit with ASLR. ASLR is like 25 years old. You have to do better than a simple buffer overflow now to get a shell.
But people have shit to sell, so we have more noise. Again, "we've put the attenuator on the wrong side of the equation."

Australia never stops extracting coal as fast as it possibly can, then extracting gas as fast as it possibly can, all while generously helping the war machine with the proceeds... The effects are here and now. They will not stop until we stop causing them.

Please stop anthropomorphizing AI executives.
They're not sentient and they can't actually think. They just predict the next token using statistical patterns scraped from LinkedIn, X and the Financial Times. The apparent "understanding" is simply a parlor trick: They produce text strings that *sound* plausible, but they don't actually have any understanding of the world.
I'll grant that they became a lot more technically impressive when Reinforcement Learning from Investor Sentiment pipelines were introduced, but fundamentally they're still just stochastic bullshit generators. Running them in a loop and giving them access to the internet will end up being the most expensive mistake in the history of technology.
