The money to pay for this year's #Budget increase in Defence spending is coming from cuts to funding for disability supports in the #NDIS.

At the same time, government is still refusing to make fossil fuel exporters pay for what they mine from lands and waters stolen from First Nations people, and the destruction to Australia's biodiversity and contribution to global carbon emissions.

Come to Monday's 12pm rally at Parliament in Canberra to fight against cutting the NDIS to pay for war machines and fossil fuel subsidies!

you guys do realize that all these hallmarks of "AI" browsers/scrapers are also the same things that accessibility tools do, right? because both interact with a webpage as a big pile of text, not as a bunch of 2d images you can click on.

but it's fine. we should be feeding deliberately fake data to any browser that doesn't act exactly like the latest version of google chrome with all tracking features enabled. we should block entire ASNs permanently because a single connection did something that looked kind of weird in one of your access logs. we should force every device to burn compute hours solving proof of waste puzzles because we need to fight those evil AI companies wasting compute hours. we are the good guys and we are doing the right thing.

Iranian news sources this morning released diagrams helping explain how Donald Trump safely made it out of his last international trip near the region.

Trump famously threatened the lives of Iranian peace negotiators yet he himself is now so afraid to be anywhere near negotiaitons that he cut and ran.

He literally left the press core and support staff in his place... surely the press would call that a "human shield" situation, right?

This article starts with a story from someone who tried Claude Code and found it amazing, but then switches to the same person a few months later seeing what a disaster it’s been. This quote is key:

The problem is that code produced by an AI agent looks reasonable, but can contain ‘hard-to-spot bugs’ that end up causing major problems

LLMs, by their nature, generate statistically plausible output. That is often a set that overlaps with correct output. But the things that are not correct look exactly the same as the ones they are.

Learning to review code is hard. You look for the bugs that you expect to be possible implementing it by using your theory of mind for the person writing the code and the kinds of things that they might overlook (not necessarily a specific person, but the kinds of things people miss) and also common bug classes.

And the big help is that the person writing the code is not thinking adversarially. They are not trying to sneak bugs in. Normally. Unless they’re a supply-chain attacker, and we’ve a depressing amount of evidence that code review doesn’t catch supply-chain attacks.

An LLM is not trying to do anything. It has no intent. But it is a machine that is trained on code that made it past code review. The kind of bugs that it will generate are ones that look like code that appeared in production. This is exactly what an attacker would do: try to write code that looks correct but is subtly wrong.

I’m only being slightly flippant when I say LLMs are a mechanism for brining supply chain attacks in house.

"Solar coaster " is an apt pun to describe the last 20 years or so of Australian government policy on #renewables. A large part of the apparently chaotic ups and downs in policy is due to the belief that the transition will be achieved by dangling just the right combination of incentives in front of households and (directly, but also via households) private industry. Never mind changing technologies, economics and targets. It's a product of blind adherence to neoliberal dogma.
