The plot against Palestine Action
"British courts have upheld the proscription of Palestine Action & sentenced four of its activists as terrorists."
"A series of abuses of legal process ensured these outcomes were all but predetermined."
Official repression culminated this week with the Court of Appeal upholding the government’s 2025 "proscription of Palestine Action as a terrorist organization."

This critique of "green" electricty privatisation in Tunisia also says a lot about Australia's energy transition - where prominent renewable energy advocates have actually opposed public ownership

"A patch of ocean south-east of Greenland is the only place on Earth that is cooling, and it could be a sign that the warm water "conveyor belt" in the Atlantic is slowing down"
Nothing puts me in the mood to sit down at a desk and waste 8 hours of my day quite like seeing things that were forecast to happen in 2100 take place in real time instead.
Israel's attempts to dissociate itself from its genocide is unraveling. The recent call published by The Lancet to remove the Israeli Medical Association from the World Medical Association is delivering a precise blow to self-perpetuated Israeli delusions of "professionalism" and "morality".
The IMA fully accepted the widely discredited Israeli claim that all Gazan hospitals served as Hamas command posts and did not merit professional solidarity, even as Israel was intentionally killing medical personnel. Letters of protest were issued only when it became clear that Israel was starving Gaza. In fact, letters of protest were most likely issued when the leadership of the IMA realized it no longer had international allies and that its attempts to weave its way between Israeli authorities and universal professional standards were failing.
When a well-know physician, an anaesthesiologist known for joining rescue missions to far-off destinations (demonstrating Israel's "morality") as well as for serving in the IDF reserves rven after he had turned 80, came forth to testify about the events taking place in the infamous Sde Teiman camp, he was seen as a civic hero. His testimony brought about the arrest of a group of prison guards who had been documented abusing a Palestinian prisoner. While these guards have since been reinstated, the physician published an op-ed with Haaretz today, self-exculpatory but also full of justifications for his actions while serving in the camp. He specifically demanded defense as a servant of the state, insinuating that responsibility was now a lethal load and was being denied by every component of the genocidal apparatus.
All this to say that Israel can no longer claim even the pretense of coherence in its self-justifying narratives. It is now a matter of denial ("it's not genocide!") or "following orders". This process has taken a criminally long time. It is compounded by Israel's removal from international and regional decision-making forums. Still, it is gathering momentum. The rats are fleeing.

This enables both university managers and federal ministers to evade responsibility. The managers (VCs) etc can blame the Feds for bad policy, while the Feds pretend that these are independent institutions making their own mistakes.

Screams from the dark room: GSF activist recounts torture by Israeli military

“In Orwell's 1946 essay on politics and language he showed how a captured mind stops generating sentences and starts assembling them from prefab parts. The phrases come pre-stacked - you reach for the slogan before you reach for the thought. He'd seen it on his own side, among people fighting for things he himself actually believed in. People fall for a "good" cause at the same rate they fall for a "bad" one. The test: can you state your own position in plain words you built yourself, right now, without any of the movement's stock phrases? If you can't, you may not actually hold the position. It may be holding you.”
The author of @allaboutberlin on how Google AI Overviews are killing independent web publishing, citing a 70% drop in traffic after seven years of steady growth. His work trains the model. The model is replacing his site. There is no credit, clicks, or revenue. This is what the "enshittification" of the open web looks like in practice.
Hard to imagine moving to Berlin without stumbling upon his guides at some point.

This is a sad post about the future of free desktop accessibility on Wayland, for people who need assistive technology on the *input* side. https://nocoffei.com/?p=451 I understand now that when I had an opportunity to work on the future of accessibility on Wayland, through the Sovereign Tech Fund's funding of GNOME development in 2024, I failed to address the problem that was actually most urgent and instead prototyped an architecture that I thought was better for screen reader users. I'm sorry.
‘103. Indeed, entrusting an algorithm in practice with the power to select who is worthy or not, without anyone bearing responsibility for that judgment, is to hand over the task of redefining the boundaries of human possibilities. In this process, political responsibility is also lost, not just empathy toward those excluded, which can, after all, be simulated. The exclusion of the vulnerable becomes cloaked in a veneer of neutrality and objectivity, against which it becomes difficult to raise objections.’
