Software got obsessed with Csikszentmihalyi for some reason ("flow state") and I sometimes imagine an alternate history where tech got obsessed with Sternberg ("practical intelligence"/creativity) and what would've happened to the implicit models of developer problem-solving in that universe

I mean I don't like the Great Man Said a Thing thing we have going on in software but it's fun to imagine

Having a parasocial relationship with Taylor Swift means you can stream her songs on Spotify if you don’t want to buy the album, but you don’t get to demand that she put time into making more music. People who like her music seem to understand this, and are more than happy to buy merch or vinyl or concert tickets and make her a billionaire.

It's seven years since I wrote 'Me and Monotropism' for The Psychologist, The British Psychological Society's magazine. Back then, the theory was still relatively little known, despite a quarter of a century of development and application; its authors were all Autistic, and none of them really played the game of academia.

Today in Labor History September 17, 1849: American abolitionist Harriet Tubman escaped from slavery. During her lifetime, she made 17 rescue missions via the Underground Railing, which she helped create, freeing 70 enslaved people. She helped John Brown plan his 1859 raid on Harper’s Ferry. During the Civil War, she served as a spy for the Union Army and helped plan the raid on Combahee Ferry, which liberated over 700 enslaved people. In her later life, she was an activist in the women’s suffrage movement.

Being a leader in your field and releasing new research that is different from the current consensus now has to fight AI and LLMs.

AI / LLMs is bias at scale. Now it's entrenched status quo.

AI cannot innovate. AI can only average out. And when that average is bad. Or dangerous. And speaks with authority. Folks will double down and be hurt.
