#OpenSSH 9.9p1 is out. This disables #DSA by default at compile time, full removal of code planned for Q1 2025 (which is approaching fast, for those of us with ossified old infrastructures :-/ ).

This also now includes ML-KEM / FIPS203 support using "mlkem768x25519-sha256" (https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-kampanakis-curdle-ssh-pq-ke-03#name-mlkem768x25519-sha256) as a kex (OpenSSH has done #PQC kex via sntrup761x25519-sha512@openssh.com for a while; this update also improves that implementation).

Current reporting from NYT and others (gift link: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/09/17/world/israel-hamas-war-news?unlocked_article_code=1.LU4.yQNN.lrxL0ef79K2O&smid=url-share) essentially confirms the speculation: Supply chain tampering with a new batch 3000 pagers from Taiwan ordered by Hezbollah involving adding 2oz of explosive material near the battery. Reports of 2800 injured, implying that essentially all of them went off, apparently nearly simultaneously, suggesting this was not targeting particular individuals (just anyone with a pager in the batch). At least nine deaths so far.

The push for an "age verification" requirement on the Internet is 1% aimed at protecting children and 99% aimed at controlling speech. It effectively bans anonymity, for starters.

It is a license to speak, and read.

There’s a counter-school of Australian history, post Humphrey McQueen, that’s invested in pointing out the aspects of slavery that did exist in the Australian 19th and 20thCs. ‘Blackbirding’ or kidnapping, legal travel restrictions of Aboriginal people and their payment in rations (or nothing), wage theft, again mostly from Aboriginal people, indentured contract labour of Chinese and Indian people. Institutions like boys and girls Homes. Unfree labour has never really disappeared.

And then there was a counter-counter school from the 1990s, the History Wars era, that tried to revise it all back. They’re all invested though in comparing Australian pasts against American ones, as though our past could be scaled in institutions.
