This is what I get for trying to better the UX of #Lomiri on #AlpineLinux... Apparently Podphoenix, the well-known Ubuntu Touch podcast app uses old Ubuntu Unity8 libraries that are not used in non-Ubuntu Lomiri, so I had to patch that. Then there was some conflict with the newer Lomiri libraries that replaces the old Ubuntu ones causing some kind of error that just dumped RAM mappings into the console. To say the least, Podphoenix will not be in Alpine.
@justsoup I remember using podbird on my first Linux phone, Ubuntu Touch on a Nexus 5. It was a solid app and easily one of my favourite apps in the ecosystem. A valiant effort on your part to port it over to Alpine but I’m not too surprised it proved more difficult than expected. Ubuntu Touch has been developed for years in a sort of bubble. There are several apps in there that could benefit the overall #linuxmobile ecosystem but I don’t know an easy way to get them out. Best of luck!🤞
@williamtries Podbird was my favorite app too! I was happy to see it updated and even ported to Focal in the form of Podphoenix. The interesting thing is that most of the Lomiri libraries have been ported to Alpine, so a lot of the apps with recent development on the Open Store should be able to run on Alpine! (Not as a Click though since that is broken on Alpine.)
@justsoup That makes sense. I suspect that some of the best apps are the oldest/original apps. At this point, I wonder if Dekko could run on pmOS. After trying Geary several times, I just can’t trust it with my primary email. It’s too unstable. I know Thunderbird can work well, but Dekko was solid and I really enjoyed it. @williamtries Yeah... welcome to working with Lomiri! I can try my hand at getting Dekko working but don't expect much out of it since I am stuck updating the 2015 dependencies of the desktop itself. 😉
I actually am very familiar with Dekko since I was quite the Ubuntu Touch user before switching over to postmarketOS. Halium and using downstream kernels annoyed me, but I missed Lomiri so bad here I am porting it. 😅
