The love of liberty and the sense of human dignity are the basic elements of the anarchist creed.

What we need are more members of the safety patrol to block shit in the name of protecting folks. Fuck off, I can make up my own mind and engage in my own battles. I am my protector. Thanks for offering but you can come back and do something useful now. Like supporting your local hacktivist fighting for your right to online privacy.
Every year on June 4, China's government ramps up VPN shutdowns, arrests, digital surveillance, and social media censorship.
This year is no different—and to mark the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square protests, the controls are even tighter. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2019/06/30-years-tiananmen-square-state-chinese-censorship-and-digital-surveillance

So, I'm checking out Librem. One as I'm interested in Purism and the style this instance has decided on. I like the idea of being the one to choose what I opt-in to and what I opt-out of. Choosing what I associate with is lovely. I miss the local/federated timelines but I do tend to search by keyword or hashtag often as well so that may be a good enough replacement.
I hope people continue to form tribes of kindred spirits and expand on these alternatives to the mainstream and are able to sidestep those who want to form their opinions for them.
I don't need another mommy and daddy telling me "these are my views/values so these will be your views/values too." 🤢 From the standpoint of a newcomer exploring, there should be a neutral point to start, followed by all the communities and networks dedicated to whatever politics/topics not the other way around.
So instead of getting a full and complete view of the fediverse and deciding for myself who and what I will associate with, the choice is taken away from the jump. Suffice it to say, I don't like that.
It's interesting searching for instances or the instance that aligns with my frequency. I have a pretty autonomy/sovereignty oriented way of looking at the world. In exploring the fediverse, I've already noticed that it may be near impossible to "start from scratch" in most instances because various admins have decided what their users/membership can or cannot interact with.
