So now that the twitter official API ban is here, bird.makeup/ is now the only working twitter crossposter/bridge left working.

Kinda lonely !

@vincent Shh they’ll find you. Seems like all they have to do is follow a specific single account and then look at who accessed them from their side.

(Awesome service. I love it. Keep fighting the good fight.)

@gogobonobo bird.makeup doesn't use a Twitter account do do its thing, so I feel quite safe! 🤷‍♂️

But thank you!

@Alishara Yeah mastodon.social has banned bird.makeup, you'll have to move servers if you want to use it...

@vincent @Gargron any chance bird.makeup will get a chance on mastodon.social?

@vincent @Alishara Why do instances like .social ban cross-posting services like these? Does the extra traffic put a burden on the mastodon instance? Or is it a philosophical objection to mirroring other platforms?

@dominick @Alishara Exactly to both! I think it’s reasonable, just wish that decision was better displayed

@vincent @Alishara I'm sympathetic. On the one hand, I'd like to be able to subscribe to content from the birdsite (like an RSS feed), so that I'm less tempted spend time outside the Fediverse. On the other hand, I understand that means that my local instance has to host whatever I'm subscribing to, which puts extra burden on it, and I don't want to abuse it. Also, the original authors aren't giving consent for their content to be mirrored, and I can see how that is thorny.

@vincent @Alishara That said, I just tried your service out with a couple accounts, and it works really well. Well done!

@dominick @vincent I have some new instances on my list. Just checking which one ist the best for me.

@vincent Hm, it stopped working for me — @santafereporter@bird.makeup and @thenewmexican@bird.makeup disappeared from my feed and running a search doesn't turn them up …

@vincent can you provide some instructions on how to set it up?
seems you need at least 1 record in the database or it will crash but haven't figured out the syntax
