like unironically 90% of the people i know who are frothing at the mouth liberals started out by watching parks and recreation and getting way too into it
people i know who had no interest in politics were taking parks and rec completely literally, getting all their civics knowledge from it and learning that liberal = good and sane, and conservative = evil, backwards, and insane.

@Nazz that show always left such a bad taste in my mouth. it got so stupid and preachey in later seasons, but was met with such universal acclaim. leslie knope was the queen of being told, not shown, how amazing of a protagonist she was.
@theblessing @Nazz A few seasons in, Poehler got a divorce from comedian Will Arnett (the guy that played "Gob"). I figured it was possibly related, you know, if you're married to someone in the same profession you can bounce ideas off them, you come up with a joke while you're brushing your teeth and you can say it and get another joke or a suggestion. Then, even if it's not a very acrimonious divorce, you still spend a lot of free time wrangling lawyers, then you go to work and in Poehler's case, the rest of the writers' room was all people she could fire that were writing jokes for a character she played. At least it seemed that way to me, since the character gradually went full-Mary Sue.
