Jesus christ I'm so upset. I have spend the better half of my weekend working on an important document in Libreoffice. I just opened it again, and all of the formatting is gone. It's just looks like ugly word vomit now. I've tried everything, but it seems like I will have to start over. This document needed to be finished by tomorrow, I was so happy that I was almost done. WTF @libreoffice , WHYYYY!! 😫

@Gina @libreoffice in which format did you safe your work? If I remember correctly I've had your problem as well before while I saved the document in .doc/.docx format.

@Gina @RyuKurisu Yes, .docx is not LibreOffice's native format, so compatibility can't be guaranteed. (We can't do anything about that – it's a pseudo-standard from Microsoft, with many issues, and not recommended for long-term data storage.) When using LibreOffice, it's best to use the software's native Open Document Format – .odt – which is a fully open and standardised format.

I've seen it claimed by Microsoft that docx is an open format just like odt. Is that actually true or it yet another trojan horse from Microsoft?

I guess what they meant is that Office Open XML (docx, xlsx, etc.) has been standardized by Ecma, ISO and IEC. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_Open_XML
