Day 58 of the #100DaysToOffload series:
Just whining. Don't mind me.
If #Google knew everything about you, they would’ve stopped listening to everything you say.
Look no further than your #email system for today’s #surveillancesaturday.
If you know that your #GMail & others are data-mined, is it entirely “on them” that your #privacy is undermined?
Be an active participant in your goal to remain private.
Avoid #surveillancecapitalism by choosing to make (sometimes difficult) decisions. Give your money to better companies with products that respect you more.
Day 56
Today @markosaric 's plausible review.
#introductions Hey everyone, I'm taking my first stab at this Fediverse thing. I am a developer interested in a variety of languages, particularly #scala, #typescript, #golang, #haskell, etc.
I have been using Linux as a daily driver for a few years now, currently using #gentoo.
I'm a huge fan of decentralization and self hosting. I'm currently working on a personal website with a blog attached @Zambyte and I'm working on DApps using the #algorand blockchain.
Happy to announce our partnership with @write_as and become the first trusted hosting provider for #WriteFreely.

Glad to see my latest post resonating with many members of the open source community.

Decided to give #NextCloud a try instead of #FileRun for my web interface to my storage. Nope! Install went ok after some research, but initial admin page is full of "errors we found". Following the fix trail of "WebDAV" is not working with no common fix was getting painful. For my use case, mostly a basic file manager front end, #FileRun meets my needs without the pain. Don't need Nextcloud for sync apps etc, as that's what Resilio Sync does for me on the back end.
I've started a zettelkasten a bit more than one month ago. It's life-changing. I wish I had heard about this note-taking method 20 years ago. I could have written down and organized so many ideas in meaningful and useful ways...
I'm already seeing so many connections and possibilities that my mind is bursting with activity. It's a fantastic introspective tool. If you're wondering what the hell it's about, here's best the article I've found on the topic: https://writingcooperative.com/zettelkasten-how-one-german-scholar-was-so-freakishly-productive-997e4e0ca125
I'm thinking about setting up my own activityPub server for personal use and looking at misskey (https://github.com/syuilo/misskey) because I'm most comfortable with javascript.
The contributor list is full of anime girls and I'm vaguely aware that there's some correlation between that and white supremacy... They have a code of conduct, but the readme itself has pics of busty anime girls.
So, do any of my followers have experience with the community/codebase? Would you recommend it?
Do you really want @google to know EVEN MORE about you than it already does? Let's tell the @EU_Commission to halt Google's ambitions around our health data, by blocking its merger with @fitbit.

VICE: The PinePhone Is an Open-Source, Community Developed iOS and Android Competitor
The device runs on a version of Linux modified by a community of developers and is designed to last 10 years.

Is it just me or does it seem like Jupiter Broadcasting is kind of falling apart?
They went from having Linux Unplugged, TechSNAP, UserError, ChooseLinux, BSDNow, Linux Headlines, Linux Action News, Self-Hosted and regular Jupiter Extras uploads to just Linux Unplugged, Linux Headlines, and Self-Hosted.
The firing of Joe Ressington killed off a lot of those shows, then BSDNow decided to go independent, and TechSNAP ended a few weeks ago.
I'm conducting a short survey on bias within the computer industry.
Only takes a moment and will be part of an article in the coming days. Feel free to forward around!
Language matters. We spend our time answering emails and support tickets when the writing in our platform is unclear.
Deliberately choosing to stop using language that comes from a legacy of oppression is a small step towards making technology more inclusive.
We're constantly refining our platform as we learn about our users needs and we expect to keep doing so.
Incremental changes like this certainly won't fix the world on their own, but they do make racists angry and uncomfortable, which we consider a win.
